Salvation is God’s gracious work that occurs when the Holy Spirit draws people to respond to the Gospel in repentance and faith.

Peter was prepared to preach across cultural barriers by God through the vision.
He preached the Gospel of peace through Jesus Christ.
The Witness of Jesus - anointed by the Holy Spirit and with power.
The Works of Jesus - healing the sick and delivering the oppressed.
The WORK of Jesus - redemption through his death, burial, and resurrection.
The Way of salvation - “whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins.”

The Holy Spirit “fell upon” Cornelius and his house when they believed the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.
They spoke in tongues as a sign to the Jewish believers that they were converted. Acts records the sign of tongues whenever the Gospel reaches a new people group. (exception is Acts 19).

Baptism is the first step of obedience for the new believer. It symbolizes a believer’s faith in the death, burial and resurrection of the Lord Jesus and publically proclaims their faith in Him.
Peter had the new believer’s baptized to show that they were now apart of the church family.

The Significance
Controversy arouse in Jerusalem. Part of the controversy had to do with process by which a person is accepted into fellowship. Under the law one first had to be cleansed outwardly before they were accepted. Under grace we are cleansed within!
Since Salvation is God’s Work we must be careful not to add to what God requires for salvation.
Repentance of sin and faith in Christ’s work of salvation.
Sanctification is the process that begins at the moment of regeneration and continues until the day of our glorification in Christ. However, you don’t first get sanctified then saved. You trust Christ in salvation and He sanctifies you!
Since Salvation is God’s Work we should be bold in proclaiming the Gospel to anyone who will listen!
