Why should you chase after your dreams?
First, you are going to talk about why we are leaving it behind.
Why are you leaving your dreams behind?
There are some people in this place who God has given dreams to. And you might have been told by others that you could never do that
They might have said that
You’re too old
Your not smart enough to do that
You don't have enough faith to do that
Or you might have talked yourself out of your dream.
You might have told yourself I'm not bold enough.
Or that It is way out of my comfort zone because that is something that I can not do in my own strength.
Or what will other people think?
Your story
I have had so many things happening in my life that I would have never thought possible.
For one I am here preaching, which I never planned on doing.
I was healed from dyslexia
God took away a lot of past hurts that I had run away from for years.
God taught me to forgive myself and to forgive myself even when I make mistakes.
Amanda told me of a dream she had of me I was in a stadium full of people and God flowed through me and healed people with disabilities. When she told me this I was in high school. I was the kid that felt like I was invisible. And a kid that the devil has convinced me that I would never succeed in life and had nothing to give to God. I didn’t feel like I had any talents or skills. Even in my first year of bible collage he had me convinced that I was just going to fail anyways so what is the point in ever trying to do your homework. I was so afraid of trying and falling that I did fail.
And truth be told, for the longest time I did not think that the dream would ever happen. Me just getting up and preaching at the time felt to big to believe for. And for a while I had completely forgot about that dream Amada had of me.
But, one day at the college we were having our day of prayer. As we usually do, we as a class created a circle. One by one we would have a class member go into the middle and the whole class would pray for them.
When it was my turn to get in the middle, one of my classmates named Victor started prophesying over my life and he said that there was a dream that I had given up on and immediately the thought came to my mind about the dream that Amanda had told me. And not long after that, I believe had a dream of myself on a big stage which I believe could be the stage where that could happen.
I told you that story to show you that no matter what God won't let you forget the dreams He gave you. And He won't let you give up on the dreams He gives you either. He gave you that dream to bless your life and other people’s lives.
Let us look at some examples from the bible of people with God-given dreams to see why those dreams are so important.
Abraham
Genesis 12:1-3 NIV
“The Lord had said to Abram, “Go from your country, your people and your father’s household to the land I will show you. “I will make you into a great nation, and I will bless you; I will make your name great, and you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.”
God promises to Abram that He will make his family into a great nation. And that through his family line all peoples on earth would be blessed. All he had to do was leave his father house and go to where God was going to show him.
As I was writing this sermon and reading this passage, I wondered what his family's thoughts on this were.
Abraham: Was called away from his family and his people so he could be set apart from the rest of the world so God could show the world through Abraham what he desires for His people. God also showed His power when he began to fulfill this dream when Abraham and Sarah had a child when they were too old to have children.
Jacob
Genesis 28:1-5 NIV
“So Isaac called for Jacob and blessed him. Then he commanded him: “Do not marry a Canaanite woman. Go at once to Paddan Aram, to the house of your mother’s father Bethuel. Take a wife for yourself there, from among the daughters of Laban, your mother’s brother. May God Almighty bless you and make you fruitful and increase your numbers until you become a community of peoples. May he give you and your descendants the blessing given to Abraham, so that you may take possession of the land where you now reside as a foreigner, the land God gave to Abraham.” Then Isaac sent Jacob on his way, and he went to Paddan Aram, to Laban son of Bethuel the Aramean, the brother of Rebekah, who was the mother of Jacob and Esau.”
Genesis 28:10-15 NIV
“Jacob left Beersheba and set out for Harran. When he reached a certain place, he stopped for the night because the sun had set. Taking one of the stones there, he put it under his head and lay down to sleep. He had a dream in which he saw a stairway resting on the earth, with its top reaching to heaven, and the angels of God were ascending and descending on it. There above it stood the Lord, and he said: “I am the Lord, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac. I will give you and your descendants the land on which you are lying. Your descendants will be like the dust of the earth, and you will spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All peoples on earth will be blessed through you and your offspring. I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”
We see in Abraham And Jacobs that God will bless all people through them and their offspring.
Jacob: In Jacob’s dream of angels ascending and descending on the stairway to heaven, The Lord was revealing Himself to Jacob in a way to let Jacob know on a personal level that He was real and active in Jacob’s life. The Lord was planning on letting Jacob’s life also be an example to the world of the favor and blessing of God.
Joseph
Genesis 37:5-8 NIV
“Joseph had a dream, and when he told it to his brothers, they hated him all the more. He said to them, “Listen to this dream I had: We were binding sheaves of grain out in the field when suddenly my sheaf rose and stood upright, while your sheaves gathered around mine and bowed down to it.” His brothers said to him, “Do you intend to reign over us? Will you actually rule us?” And they hated him all the more because of his dream and what he had said.”
Genesis 37:9-11 NIV
“Then he had another dream, and he told it to his brothers. “Listen,” he said, “I had another dream, and this time the sun and moon and eleven stars were bowing down to me.” When he told his father as well as his brothers, his father rebuked him and said, “What is this dream you had? Will your mother and I and your brothers actually come and bow down to the ground before you?” His brothers were jealous of him, but his father kept the matter in mind.”
Joseph: We know the full story of Joseph and how he was second in command in Egypt and all bowed to him just like the sheaves of wheat and stars bowed to him in his dreams. But we can notice that part of the dream was left out and that was God’s purpose. The true purpose for Joseph being in a place of power was to save the lives of many people. Genesis 50:20
Through Joseph’s life, The Lord reveals His purpose. His overall purpose is to save the life of Abraham. And all of egypt.
Are dream yushley do happen in a day if you read Abraham Jacobs and Joseph story’s you will see that they had to go through many trials throughout their lives before they could see their dream for filled.
Abraham is so afraid for his life that he tells to kings that his wife was not his wife but his sister.
Jacob brother threatens to kill him so his father and mother sent him away to get a wife to escape from his brother. Jacob gets deceived by his uncle. it Hass to work another seven years because of it what
Joseph got thrown into a pet sold into slavery by his brothers, then he was thrown into jail for doing the right thing. I don’t know about you but I would be ask God why he let them put me I jail for doing the right thing.
