Intro and Tension

Name is Mat | Pastor of this Church | What some of you may not know, is that I never thought I would be here | As most of you know I was a RAGING Athiest | I remember having a heated arguemnt with friend - trying to save him from Church - I am now God’s biggest ironic Joke.
I want to go to a very familiar story in the Bible - Jesus, calling Peter - it says
Luke 5:1–3 ESV
On one occasion, while the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, he was standing by the lake of Gennesaret, and he saw two boats by the lake, but the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. Getting into one of the boats, which was Simon’s, he asked him to put out a little from the land. And he sat down and taught the people from the boat.
First thing Simon did - Obeyed Jesus in the little thing- Put it out slightly.
Don’t underestimate what God can do with a little obedience. Let’s keep reading
Luke 5:4–11 ESV
And when he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, “Put out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” And Simon answered, “Master, we toiled all night and took nothing! But at your word I will let down the nets.” And when they had done this, they enclosed a large number of fish, and their nets were breaking. They signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord.” For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish that they had taken, and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching men.” And when they had brought their boats to land, they left everything and followed him.
Jesus often uses us in unexpected and unusual ways - I never thouht in a million years, I would be standing here being a Pastor.
I have no idea where most of you are with your walk with Christ, but what I do know is he is asking each and every one of you for a small act of obedience - What is it for you?
See Peter, had no idea that he would eventually preach and bring 3,000 to Christ - but it started with a small act of obedience.
Did Peter have doubts ? of course? “Master we hve toiled all night and caught nothing” - If you have doubts, don’t give up on Jesus.
Where is he asking you to let down your nets? Where is he asking for your commitment? What is he asking for you to hand over to him?
As we continue worshipping tonight, ask yourself, where is Jesus asking you to let down your nets?
Ask Jesus to take away fear of commitment.
Ask Jesus to take away the fear of putting it in his hands
Give it all to Jesus, and see what he might do with it. See what he might do with it.
