Psalm 23:1-6
Psalm 23:1-6
Many times we have read and recited this Psalm.
It is one of the most remembered Psalm and the most quoted Psalm in all history
(the City of God prayer .... before war scene)
So this Psalm is used all the time,
Even among unbelievers
So the question is… Why are we going over this again LaJuan? We did this last year…
Because I believe in being repetitive.
There is never anything wrong with reviewing good thing. And sometimes we need a reminder.
So lets read Psalm 23:1-6
1 Yahweh is my shepherd,
I shall not want.
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside quiet waters.
3 He restores my soul;
He guides me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil, for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You have anointed my head with oil;
My cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and lovingkindness will pursue me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of Yahweh forever.

The zero verse……..

A Song of David .............(miz-mor la Da-wee)
The Lord / Yahweh is my shepherd, (keeper, protector, the one who tends to me)
I will NOT want (lack, decrease)
This statement is enough. Our Lord, Yahweh is our shepherd, keeper, protector I will not ever want, lack
If you know a billionaire and you are in need?
Low money
debts
rent
need car
better diet
the billionaire said to you don’t worry about it. I’m going to take care of it all
With that.. you know that everything is good, and everything is going to be ok.
I’m in need of nothing… “I shell not want..”

The Lord Provides for His People spiritual nourishment
2 He makes me lie down in green pastures;
He leads me beside quiet waters.
When a Shepherd takes care of His flock it is important to take care of them.
green pastures/or green grass leads to what? nourishment in eating (God lays us down in…)
he leads/guides me to a watery place,
quiet waters (because loud rushing waters may cause sheep to be fearful. (quiet/still waters)
So being in green grass, and quiet waters means that you will be well fed and hydrated.
nourished
3 He restores my soul;
He guides me in the paths of righteousness
For His name’s sake.
He restores my soul
restore - meaning to turn away, returning one to their original state (repenting)
God leads us to a path,
a clear paved road
He does this because of Who He is!!!!!!!!
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I fear no evil, for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
I walk in the deep dark valley of the shadow on death (complete darkness)
walk blind fold story “leading”
I fear no evil for you are with me...
The Lord presence make all the difference
the Lord is with us.
7 Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?
8 If I ascend to heaven, You are there;
If I make my bed in Sheol, behold, You are there.
9 If I take the wings of the dawn,
If I dwell in the remotest part of the sea,
10 Even there Your hand will lead me,
And Your right hand will lay hold of me.
Same with Jacob:
15 “Behold, I am with you and will keep you wherever you go, and will bring you back to this land; for I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”
lets not forget:
20 teaching them to observe all that I commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.”
And last:
23 “Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,” which translated means, “God with us.”
The Lord is With Us!! Yahweh is with Us.
He is always with His own.
Even when you walk in the deep darkness valley of death
you will not succumb to it because He is with you.
spoiled cousin story
“No fear......”
7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge;
Fools despise wisdom and instruction.
fear here meaning reverence
its the same root word.
Ya-re (23)
yar-a (Prov 1)
So it is not just about fear as in one afraid of something.
but to be in reverence, honoring
So can we say:
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
(I will not be in reverence or honor of any) evil, for You are with me
Rob and Staff
Rob and Staff
the rod (correction), staff (protection) gives comfort to me.
5 You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies;
You have anointed my head with oil;
My cup overflows.
We changes settings
now we are in a banquette hall
God provides and table for us in the presents of our enemies
We get to see here that the Lord gives us comfort in the middle of danger.
anointed my head
anointed my head
God anointed us as special guest
My cup overflows
The Lord fills our cups with good things
we are the honored Guest of God,
He set a table up for us
annointed us as honed guest
And fills our cups with Good things .
6 Surely goodness and lovingkindness will follow me all the days of my life,
And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
