What Does It Mean To Be A Disciple
What Does It Mean To Be A Disciple
31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.
32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
33 They answered Him, “We are Abraham’s descendants, and have never been in bondage to anyone. How can You say, ‘You will be made free’?”
34 Jesus answered them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, whoever commits sin is a slave of sin.
35 And a slave does not abide in the house forever, but a son abides forever.
36 Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.
37 “I know that you are Abraham’s descendants, but you seek to kill Me, because My word has no place in you.
38 I speak what I have seen with My Father, and you do what you have seen with your father.”

Confession of Faith
I am not moved by what I see or by what I feel. I am moved by what I believe. I believe the WORD of God! The victory is mine! I have it now! I can see it through the eyes of my faith!
Introduction
Introduction
To get back to basics we cannot forget why Jesus came to this earth!
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Today, The human race is still locked up in the prison of sin and all the punishment that comes with it!
Every Church exist today to tell people about how much God loves them By giving is only son to die for us and pay the price for our sin! The church does not exist to affirm you in your sin, to tell you your sin is good, to let continue to live a life of destruction!
The church does not exist so that we live in the consequences of sin: guilt, shame, hurt, pain, sorrow, suffering, destruction, devastation, brokenness, death, and judgment. Monday through Saturday and put a band aid on the sore Sunday Morning !
The Church exist to let you know you have been set free from sin Monday through Sunday 24 hours 7 days a week!
But there are conditions to this freedom:
You must make up in your mind that you believe in the Word of God, Believe in the The teachings of Jesus Christ! Not some of it, but all of it!
16 “For this is how God loved the world: He gave his one and only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
Believe in Jesus Christ
Then John tells the ones who were moved in their hearts by Jesus and the Word of God
John 8:31–32 (NKJV)
31 “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.
32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”
The message Translation says
31 Then Jesus turned to the Jews who had claimed to believe in him. “If you stick with this, living out what I tell you, you are my disciples for sure.
the condition is - if you claim to believe in Jesus , you must live a life based on the Word of God!
He is telling us a decision must be made! A condition must be adhered to
If we live in Christ , then we will know the truth and the truth will set us free from the prison of sin!
We can’t live in Christ and live in sin at the same time!
1. You have to believe in Jesus:
30 As He spoke these words, many believed in Him.
Those who were bound up , tied up and tangled up in sin in -listened to the good news that was being shared!
Something happened in their hearts! What they heard from Jesus gave them a hope!
They didn't nod off or fall asleep, and they didn't let their minds wander. They didn't let anything else get in the way.
They heard what he was saying , and because they heard something changed in their hearts They believed in Jesus ," their hearts were moved. Because of this, they felt... • a need, a lack, or a void.
• a need, a want, or a hunger to be with Jesus
• a shadow, a sin, or a pollutant.
• a shame, a guilt, and an ugly thing.
• a hope, a pull, or a tug.
They wanted to be with Jesus. They saw how faith started and grew up in its early years. They looked like lambs or "newborn babes" (cp. John 3:3; 1 Peter 2:2-3).
The point is that believing is the first step toward being saved and being set free. (See Deeper Study #2, Belief—John 2:24.)
"So that anyone who believes in him won't die, but will have eternal life. For God loved the world so much that he gave his only son so that anyone who believes in him will not die but will live forever " (John 3:15-16).
"Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my words and believes in the one who sent me has eternal life and will never be judged. He has passed from death to life" (John 5:24).
"Martha told him, 'I know that he will rise again at the last day's resurrection'" (John 11:24).
"I have come into the world as a light, so that whoever believes in me will not stay in darkness." (John 12:46).
"But these are written so that you will believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you will have life through his name" (John 20:31).
"All the prophets testify to him that whoever believes in him through his name will have their sins forgiven." (Acts 10:43).
"And by him, all who believe are justified from everything that the law of Moses could not justify you from" (Acts 13:39).
"They told him, 'Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, and you and your family will be saved'" (Acts 16:31).
"Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and whoever loves the one who gave birth to them also loves the ones they gave birth to" (1 John 5:1).
2. However, there is a second condition that must be met for salvation and deliverance to happen. It is that of staying or staying in the Lord's Word (meinte PWS: 760). The idea is of living, like when someone lives at home. The believer's home is the Word of the Lord. He stays in God's Word and doesn't leave it. Very briefly, this is what Jesus was saying:
If someone starts to believe, they will "continue" in the Lord's Word. He will keep studying and doing the Word (2 Tim. 2:15).
If someone doesn't believe, they won't "continue" in the Lord's Word.
The proof and evidence that a person "really believes" is that he "continues" and "abides" and "dwells" in the Lord's Word. The proof and evidence that a person has only made a false or superficial profession is that he does not "continue" in the Lord's Word.
"But he who sticks it out until the end will be saved" (Matthew 24:13).
"Stay in me, and I will stay in you. As a branch can't bear fruit on its own unless it stays connected to the vine, neither can you unless you stay connected to me. I am the vine, and you are the branches. Whoever stays in me and I in him bears much fruit, because without me you can't do anything. If a person doesn't stay with me, he's thrown out like a dead branch and burned. People pick them up and throw them into the fire " (John 15:4-6).
"If you keep my rules, you'll stay in my love, just like I've kept my father's rules and stayed in his love" (John 15:10).
"Beloved, since you already know these things, be careful not to fall from your own steadfastness by following the wrong ways of the wicked" (2 Peter 3:17).
"Whoever says he lives in him should also walk the way he walked" (1 John 2:6).
"And now, little children, stay in him, so that when he comes, we will have faith and not be ashamed before him" (1 John 2:28).
"Whoever sins and doesn't stick to what Christ taught, doesn't have God. He who stays true to what Christ taught has both the Father and the Son " (2 John 9).
(See the note on John 6:56, "Abiding," for more on this.)
2. (8:32) Salvation, Outcomes: There are two outcomes of being saved from sin and becoming a disciple.
1. The first result is that a true believer will know the truth (see Deeper Study #1, John 8:32, and compare it to Deeper Study #1, John 1:9, and Deeper Study #2, John 14:6).
The true believer will be set free as the second result. (See John 8:32, 2 Corinthians 3:17–18, and Ephesians 2:8, part 4, for more on this.)
Thought 1: The truth of Christ is the key to freeing people and the world from all the things that hold them back.
• prejudice and hate • division and isolation • hatred and bitterness • hostility and war • assault and killing • crime and injustice • enslavement and abuses • emptiness and loneliness • fear and death • selfishness and hoarding • hunger and sickness
