Man’s Purpose
There is no contradiction between Genesis 1 and 2. They are complimentary of one another.
Genesis 1 begins formless and void and culminates in the creation of man whom God forms in His image.
Genesis 2 pivots on man to show the purpose, provision and plan of God for man in regards to the rest of His creation.
God places man in the garden and brings forth life around him to provide for his needs.
But take notice, God charges man to work and care for the garden.
The intent is for man to work and not sit idly by.
The difference between work in the garden and work today is the presence of the Lord.
Purpose Accomplished Together
God invited man into the creation process.
He gave man the dominion to name creation.
It is not good for man to be alone.
God gave to man a helpmate, an equal compliment.
Take notice that woman is valued for being created in the image of God.
Nothing yet is said of woman’s role.
She has purpose to be the helpmate or compliment to man.
