Introduction
In this new series, Kingdom Culture, we are going to look at what it means to live a Kingdom filled life.
God’s Kingdom is going to grow until He comes back but if we aren’t willing to take part, God will ask someone that is willing.
So I think that question we have to continually ask ourselves is, “Why not me?”
Body
What does it look like to influence the world for the Kingdom?
You can not live for Christ and live for the world. If you’re loyal to one master, you’ll hate the other.
If your friends don’t know you’re a Christian, that’s a problem.
Mark 10:41–45 NIV
When the ten heard about this, they became indignant with James and John. Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.”
Jesus came and walked on this Earth with the mindset of a servant.
He didn’t come and sit in a fancy castle, telling everyone else what to do…
In the verse leading up to this moment, James and John have asked Jesus if they could sit on the left and right side of Him in heaven.
Jesus tells them no, through a series of questions.
Then we get to this part where he starts describing the idea of living for the Kingdom.
Mark 10:41–42 NIV
When the ten heard about this, they became indignant with James and John. Jesus called them together and said, “You know that those who are regarded as rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them.
Jesus is saying this passage to James and John…
They desired position and status, but that is not the nature of the Kingdom. (@dudewithsign, 7.8m follows)
Servanthood and honor are the currency of the Kingdom.
If we want to advance and grow the Kingdom of God we have to be okay with servanthood.
Jesus never intended for The Church to be this high and mighty organization.
Jesus flips the script on how to gain clout or influence…
Mark 10:43 NIV
Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant,
Many people get turned off by this statement Jesus makes, because if we’re being honest that’s not the life you want to live.
When we are truly about the Kingdom, this verse does not bother us… being okay with surrender.
Phrase G.O.A.T… in the Kingdom is a servant
As a believer in Christ you can not tell people about Jesus and live completely different.
There are people that go to church every week, sing songs, listen to a pastor, and go home unchanged.
They never share their faith, never read their Bible, never get in community with like-minded people, the list goes on.
1 Peter 2:9 NIV
But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.
Stop toeing the line as a believer.
This series has been challenging to me and it’s caused me to evaluate my own life. To be honest it’s been convicting.
I started researching secular places that have great culture…
“Chick-fil-A is committed to a workplace culture where everyone is treated with honor, dignity and respect.” (chick-fil-a.com)
I’ve been to numerous Chick-fil-a’s across America and no matter what they are all legit…
The culture of Chick-fil-a was not established overnight. It took time and people to get others on board.
We are in a season in CARR Yth where we can rewrite the script.
We can build this thing up and years down the road, look back and say, “Wow, look at God…”
It’s our choice, but why not be apart of something bigger, something bigger than yourself?
Conclusion
As we close, prayer that the Lord would highlight areas of your life that you need to surrender to Him.
Prayer that He would empower you to go into your schools and live with a servant mindset for the Kingdom.
