Outline
I. The Controversies on the Sabbaths. Verses 1-11
II. The Choice of His Servants. Verses. 12-19
III. The Challenge of His Sermon. Verses 20-49
Here are the KEYS to unlock this event in the Life of our Lord Jesus Christ.

I. The Person of the Saviour. v. 6

His method. v.6a
And it came to pass also on another sabbath, that he entered into the synagogue and taught:
The 1st time “it came to pass” Cain brought forth the fruit of the ground. (Genesis 4:3)
When the 1st occurrence of “it came to pass” with Jesus, the word “finished” shows up. (1 Cor 15:45-50)
Jesus went to the place of worship of His day.
Application: His method must be our method.
His opportunity. v.6b
and there was a man whose right hand was withered.
Why mention that it was “the right hand”?
Genesis 13:9 the right hand is a choice.
Exodus 14:22 it is a corridor.
Exodus 15:6 it is a correction.
Leviticus 8:23 it is a consecration.
Psalm 16:11; Acts 2:33; Acts 7:56; Romans 8:34; Ephesians1:20; Colossians 3:1; Hebrews 1:3; Hebrews 10:12; Hebrews 12:2 it is Christ!
Psalm 17:7 it is conversion.
Psalm 18:35 it is continuation.
Psalm 20:6 it is concentration.
Psalm 73:23 it is comfort.
Psalm 78:54 it is credit. (Christ had not yet come)
Isaiah 48:13 it is connection.
Matthew 25:33 it is converts.
I wonder which hand the Devil wants to mark during the Great Tribulation? Revelation 13:16
“withered” - (adj.) shrunken from disease.
Most quoted “withered”:
Jonah 4:7 (KJV)
But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd that it withered.

II. The Plan of the Skeptics. v.7

Who they were looking for. v.7a
And the scribes and Pharisees watched him, whether he would heal on the sabbath day;
They watched Jesus.
You should watch Jesus.
What they were looking for. v.7b
that they might find an accusation against him.
INCIDENTS ILLUSTRATIVE OF

III. The Power of the Saviour. vs.8-10

His demonstration. v.8
But he knew their thoughts, and said to the man which had the withered hand, Rise up, and stand forth in the midst. And he arose and stood forth.
Everyone that says this putting themselves on the same level as God Himself.
Psychics, mind readers, telepaths are all liars.
Where do all liars end up? Revelation 21:8
His question. v.9
Then said Jesus unto them, I will ask you one thing; Is it lawful on the sabbath days to do good, or to do evil? to save life, or to destroy it?
When the Lord asked He knew they would not and could not answer.
All corrupt religious hucksters act the same.
His manifestation. v.10
And looking round about upon them all, he said unto the man, Stretch forth thy hand. And he did so: and his hand was restored whole as the other.
No one is restored until these things happen:
The Lord must out them publicly. V.8
They must put forward what the damage is. V.10 “stretch forth thy hand”
Jesus has to do the restoration.
The direction is simple:
“ye which are spiritual” are the ones tasked to restore the erring brethren. (Galatians 6:1)
You must consider the temptation: it is pride.

IV. The Plight of the Skeptics. v.11

Their internal combustion. v.11a
And they were filled with madness;
“madness” (1828) Extreme folly; headstrong passion and rashness that act in opposition to reason; as the madness of a mob.
What controls you?
Their external corruption. v.11b
and communed one with another what they might do to Jesus.
Now they want to kill the man that healed a crippled man.
What do you do when people you don’t like do good things for the unfortunate?
Conclusion:
Is Jesus Christ THE perfect Saviour?
Is Jesus Christ YOUR perfect Saviour?
