But You Must Renounce The Spirit Of Mammon!

Matthew 6:24 No one can serve two masters . . .

you cannot serve God and mammon!

What is mammon?

The word for Mammon is an Aramaic word that means wealth or riches, and that is why it is translated wealth or riches in some translations.

But I submit to you today that mammon is actually a demonic spirit that rests on your soul and will influence your thinking about your money and confidence in God!

In Luke 16:9Jesus said that Mammon was Unrighteous, but according to 1 Timothy 6:10your Bible says the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil and some longing for it have wandered away from the faith.

‌ Luke 16:9 And I say to you, make FRIENDS for yourselves by means of the MAMMON of UNRIGHTEOUSNESS; so that when it fails (dies, physically expires), THEY (friends you made), will welcome you into eternal dwellings (heaven)!

Money is not evil, but Mammon certainly is evil and the reason for that is because Mammon is a demonic spirit that will rest on your soul and challenge your confidence in God to meet your needs!

God has promised us that whenever we give, He will reward us, but for us to receive the reward whenever we give, we must RENOUNCE the SPIRIT of MAMMON!

Before we explore renouncing the spirit of mammon further, I want to do a very quick review of the previous two weeks:

First, I want to remind you about . . .

‌I. FASTING that results in INTIMACY with God!

‌‌A.

The DISCIPLES fast: Frees you and or enables you to free others from addictions, besetting sins and or demonic spirits!

‌Mark 9:29 And Jesus said to them, “This kind cannot come out by anything but fasting.”

‌‌B.

The PAUL fast: Enables you to hear God’s voice and discern God’s will about major changes in your life!

‌Acts 9:4 Saul fell to the ground and heard a voice speaking to him . . . he said, who are you, Lord?

‌Acts 9:9 He was three days without sight, and neither ate nor drank

‌C.

The DANIEL fast: Positions us to experience wisdom and understanding of dreams and visions!

‌Daniel 10:3 I did not eat any tasty food, nor did meat or wine enter my mouth, not did I use any ointment at all until three weeks were completed

‌D.

The EZRA fast: Results in humility for yourself—safety in your journey—protection for your loved ones and your possessions!

Ezra 8:21 Then I proclaimed a fast . . .

that we might humble ourselves before our God to seek from Him a safe journey for us, our little ones, and all our possessions.

‌‌E.

The WIDOW’S fast: God supplies your needs supernaturally through your obedience to meet the needs of others using what you have!

‌1 Kings 17:15 So, she went and did according to the word of Elijah, and she and her household ate for many days . . .

‌1 Kings 17:16 The bowl of flour was not exhausted nor did the jar of oil become empty, according to the word of the Lord . . .

‌F.

The ELIJAH Fast: Breaks negative and or destructive emotional feelings and habits and gives us the freedom we need to finish our assignments and impart our anointing to the next generation!

‌1 Kings 19:2 Then Jezebel sent a messenger to Elijah . . . 3 and he was afraid and arose and ran for his life . . .

‌and he requested for himself that he might die

‌1 Kings 19:7 The angel of the Lord came again a second time and touched him and said, Arise, eat for the journey is too great for you . . . he went on the strength of that food forty days and forty nights to the mountain of God

‌In addition to FASTING that results in INTIMACY with God, I want to remind you about . . .

II.

PRAYING that results in the POWER of God

Acts 4:31 And when they had prayed, the place where they had gathered together was shaken, and they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak the word of God with boldness

‌*How do we pray so that it results in the Power of God?

‌A.

Pray using the SCRIPTURE!

Ephesians 1:16 . . .

while making mention of you in my prayers

‌Ephesians 1:17 that the . . .

Father of Glory, may give you a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the knowledge of Him.

‌Ephesians 1:18 I pray that the eyes of your heart (soul), may be enlightened, so that, you will know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints

‌B.

Pray using the SPIRIT!

‌Jude 20 But you, beloved, building yourselves up on your most Holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit

‌1 Corinthians 14:15 What is the outcome then?

I will pray with the Spirit.

‌Ephesians 6:18 With all prayer and petition pray at all times in the spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert

‌*What is it about Praying with the Spirit that is so different than all other disciplines of praying?

‌1.

*It is a language that is PERSONAL!

1 Corinthians 14:14 For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays . . .

‌2. *It is a language that is POWERFUL!

Ephesians 6:18.. . .

pray at all times in the spirit, and with this in view, be on the alert!

‌3.

*It is a language that is PURE!

‌Zephaniah 3:9 For then I will give them purified lips (pure language), so that all of them might call on the name of the Lord

‌C.

Pray using the SOUL!

1 Corinthians 14:15 . . .

and I will pray with the mind also.

‌In addition to praying with the spirit and soul the Apostle Paul also mentions singing with the spirit and singing with the soul also . . .

‌1 Corinthians 14:15 . . .

and I will sing with the spirit, and I will sing with the mind also.

‌Now, let’s move forward with Renouncing the spirit of mammon!

I want to remind you about . . .

‌III.

GIVING that results in the BLESSING of God!

‌Malachi 3:10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse . . .

“Test Me now in this” says the Lord of Hosts, if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows!

‌*How can we assure that when we GIVE it will result in the blessing of God on our lives?

A. ‌UNDERSTAND the PRINCIPLE!

Malachi 3:10 Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse . . .

What is the tithe?

The word for tithe means a tenth and was designed to be an equitable proportion for the rich and the poor.

Who does the tithe belong to?

The tithe belongs to the Lord!

Leviticus 27:30 Thus all the tithe . . . is the Lord’s; it is holy to the Lord!

Isn’t tithing limited to the Old Testament?

When it pertains to things God says belong to Him and are holy to Him, He does not change!

Malachi 3:6 For I the Lord do not change . . .

B. UTILIZE the PERMISSION!

Malachi 3:10 . . .

“Test Me now in this” says the Lord of Hosts

C. EMBRACE the PROMISE!

Malachi 3:10 . . .

“Test Me now in this” says the Lord of Hosts, (and see), if I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you a blessing until it overflows!

D. EXPECT the PROOF!

Malachi 3:11” THEN” I will rebuke the devourer for you . . .

*Notice the timeline for the proof (after you return the tithe)!

E. RECOGNIZE the PURPOSE!

‌Philippians 4:17 . . .

you sent a gift more than once . . .

17 not that I seek the gift itself, but I seek for the profit which increases to your account

*In closing, mammon is a demonic spirit that is looking for worshipers!
