The ultimate Christian experience
At salvation or a second experience?
Many denominations believe that “Baptism in the Holy Spirit” is something that happens at salvation, almost as another term for regeneration
Pentecostal/Charismatic churches believe that the “Baptism of the Holy Spirit” is a second experience.
Apostles were converted under the ministry of Jesus (Jn.
1:35-50; Lk. 10:20; Jn. 13:10-11; Jn. 15:2), yet they were commanded to wait and were filled with the Spirit at least two years later at Pentecost (Lk.
24:49; Acts 1:13-14, 2:1-4)
The Samaritans were saved under the ministry of Philip (Acts 8:4-8, 12), but were baptized with the Holy Spirit under the ministry of Peter and John later (Acts 8:14-17)
Paul was converted on the road to Damascus (Acts 9:3-9), but he was baptized with the Holy Spirit under the ministry of Ananias three days later (Acts 9:17-19)
The twelve men at Ephesus were believers-”Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”
(Acts 19:2) and had been baptized in water, but they received the baptism of the Holy Spirit afterwards.
There doesn’t need to be a delay between regeneration and baptism in the HS, but it is an additional experience.
