1. Peter points us back to the great salvation he laid out for us in v.3-5. Our salvation incorruptible, and undying.
a. This produces Joy. i.e. You Rejoice.
2. Peter tells us that this suffering is only temporary. It does not carry on into eternity.
a. God is working out his plan even in their anguish.- Tom Schriener.
3. These events in our lives are not for nothing
a. They are used by God himself.
b. He uses these terrible moments and events for our own perseverance.
c. The purpose of the sufferings to refine us. Much life with gold and silver. Much damage is to be done to those pieces in order for them to be valuable.
4. Versus 8-9 are to be taken together.
a. To help us anticipate His second coming.
b. Our Faith will eventually give way to sight.
Ending
a. Withing the ending of V.9) We come to a already/not yet situation.
b. We share in the glorious salvation that Jesus has brought to us in the here and now.
c. However that salvation is not fully here. We await in the midst of sufferings and trials our full reward. The escape of sufferings all together at the second coming of our Lord.
