The Heart of Rejoicing

a. Circumstances and false teaching.
i. As the believer walks through life, two things are always confronting him:
ii. Circumstances and false teaching.
iii. It seems that around every corner there is trouble
iv. We win one battle only to comforted new battle
b. Just think of battles we face
i. Temptations
ii. Greed
iii. Selfishness
iv. Divisions
v. Then there is heartache – sickness – debt
vi. The list can go on and on
vii. No person escapes the trials of life
c. Then there are false teachings
i. We are told how to handle these problems
ii. “Do your own thing”
1. I have zero “cares” to give.
2. Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we die.
3. Ignore the trials and problems of life.
iii. Almost the opposite says this
1. Discipline and control yourself.
2. Look within yourself
3. You wouldn’t have health problems if you would…
iv. Here’s one
1. Join a religious body, undergo its rituals, adopt its beliefs, and live the best you can.
2. Here is a list of dos and don’ts to please God
d. We must be on guard against these false beliefs
i. The first guard is to rejoice in the Lord.
ii. If we walk throughout our day rejoicing in the Lord, we are more likely to focus on the Lord than our troubles.

iii. It’s a powerful word
b. The bible uses the word 34 times

i. Seems weird that rejoicing plays a role
ii. Rejoicing is an emotion that effects our mind
iii. The battle is won in the mind.
Four things rejoicing can do for you.
i. It is a key ingredient in our Christian walk (you can’t rejoice and complain)
ii. It’s a key ingredient in the unity of our church (you can’t rejoice and be mad at your church family) (Rejoice and be mad)
iii. It’s a key ingredient in our personal walk with Jesus (you show your gratitude in your rejoicing)
iv. Rejoicing prepares you for eternity (This is practice down here)

1. A church rejoices together can fight any battle they face.
