Refusing to be Offended – Rejecting Rejection

Matthew 15:21-27 - " Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.” But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, “Send her away, for she cries out after us.” But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!” But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.”" (Matthew 15:21-27, NKJV)

How easy it would be to move on if we treated damaging relationships the same way we do God. They do that one more time and I am out of here – one more lie, one more hurt. We have it all backward. We find ourselves excusing and making allowances for the things that we know are not good for us, and God is rejected at the first hint of disappointment. What if we turned it around and gave God the benefit of the doubt; what would happen if we would continue to pursue God even when we don’t get the answer we were expecting?

God has put something in us to keep trying – but instead of letting life happen to us, we need to take charge of what is going to happen.

Even when they knew it is not good for them, they go right back to it. What would happen if we treated our relationship with Jesus  the same way.

Story of Steve Jobs – birth mother abandoned him, adopted parents wanted a girl. Life was fine until college – where he flunked out. Started his own business – Apple Computers – then the board of directors fired him. Started something new on his own – Apple hired him back -  now we have ipods and iphones.

Matthew 7:7 " “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you."
