Joshua 13:6-21, Joshua Lived by Faith
Joshua Lived by Faith, Joshua 5:13-6:1-21.
Israel finally crossed the Jordan. They are in the Promised Land. There are challenges.
1) The Opportunity of Faith: [Joshua 6:1-2: Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in. And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour].
The Lord promised Jericho to Joshua. It looked impossible. [Joshua 5:13: And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?].
Joshua was bold and courageous. We all have Jericho’s in our lives. Nothing is impossible with God. Nobody can stand against the Lord. We have the promises of God. He will never leave us or forsake us. [Matthew 28:20: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen].
2) The Obedience of Faith: [Joshua 6:3-5: And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days. And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him].
We cannot conquer Jericho ourselves. Faith requires obedience. We need to yield and submit. We can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
We need to be faithful to God’s Word.
3) Overcoming: The Power of Faith: [Joshua 6:15-20: And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times. And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city. And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the LORD: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent. And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it. But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the LORD: they shall come into the treasury of the LORD. So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city].
Joshua bowed down and worshipped God. Joshua obeyed God.
We need to obey God instead of trying to do things our way.
Let us ask in faith. We come to God in faith and pray in faith. His way is always the best way. [Isaiah 55:8: For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD].
Let us not be double minded. [James 1:8: A double minded man is unstable in all his ways].
Be ready for God to act on our prayers.
Pray according to the will of the Lord and you will receive what you ask for.
The world does not understand our faith. Rahab was saved with Israel because of her faith.
We need to live victorious Christian lives. God promises victory. The walls are not too high or too thick.
