God’s Greatest Blessings Often Follow Our Greatest Testings [V1]
2 Kings 4:1 (NKJV)
1 A certain woman of the wives of the sons of the prophets cried out to Elisha, saying, “Your servant my husband is dead, and you know that your servant feared the Lord.
And the creditor is coming to take my two sons to be his slaves.”
This woman found herself in a desperate place.
Even when we find ourselves in a desperate place, we can take comfort in knowing that God still has a plan for our lives.
God Allows Hardship to Strengthen Our Relationship [v2a]
2 Kings 4:2 (NKJV)
2 So Elisha said to her, “What shall I do for you?
God is asking this question of His children today, “How can I help?
We all need a Breakthrough.
Breakthrough of Healing.
Breakthrough of Deliverance.
Breakthrough in Relationships.
Breakthrough in Finances.
However, in addition to these, I believe we need a spiritual breakthrough.
God’s Not Asking for a Lot, He Just Wants You to Use What You’ve Got [V2b]
2 Kings 4:2 (NKJV)
Tell me, what do you have in the house?”
And she said, “Your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil.”
“Jar” = asuk [aw-sook] = a small flask = maybe more of a flask of anointing oil than an oil pot for cooking oil.
God doesn’t need or depend on anything we have to offer.
But God does want us to offer what we have.
God will take it and multiply it for His purpose.
God’s Solution Often Requires Putting Our Faith into Action [V3-4]
2 Kings 4:3–5 (NKJV)
3 Then he said, “Go, borrow vessels from everywhere, from all your neighbors—empty vessels; do not gather just a few. 4 And when you have come in, you shall shut the door behind you and your sons; then pour it into all those vessels, and set aside the full ones.”
5 So she went from him and shut the door behind her and her sons, who brought the vessels to her; and she poured it out.
God was about to perform a miracle for this woman, but He required her to respond in obedient faith in order to receive it.
God told the woman to borrow empty vessels.
You can’t borrow someone else’s anointing, someone else’s calling, someone else’s giftings.
We’ve got to say, “empty me of me and fill me with more of You God!”
God will pour out His Spirit into Vessels of Honor.
God’s Priority is to Increase Our Capacity [V7]
2 Kings 4:6–7 (NKJV)
6 Now it came to pass, when the vessels were full, that she said to her son, “Bring me another vessel.”
And he said to her, “There is not another vessel.”
So the oil ceased.
7 Then she came and told the man of God.
And he said, “Go, sell the oil and pay your debt; and you and your sons live on the rest.”
There was no limit to the amount of oil, there was only a limit on the capacity of the vessels.
Capacity = the maximum amount that something can contain or produce.
The amount of her blessing was determined by her capacity.
CLOSING
God wants to take you From Empty to Filled.
2023 is a year of breakthrough and increase.
Where do you need breakthrough?
What areas of your life need to be emptied?
What areas of your life do you need to be filled?
What is your spiritual capacity?
Do you need the Lord to increase your spiritual capacity?
