Have you ever just seen someone helpless? I think to the life alert commercials
“I’ve fallen and I can’t get up”
Maybe you’ve felt that way before?
- Perhaps you felt that way emotionally, spiritually, economically, domestically, physically. You’ve said, I’m down, and I can’t get up. Well, the message to you tonight is, In the name of Jesus, rise and walk. Listen to God’s Word.
If you’re down I want to tell you theres a miracle waiting and it is in the name of Jesus!
Acts 3:1–11 (KJV 1900)
1 Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.
Peter & John are going to pray at the temple
2 And a certain man lame from his mother’s womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;
Josephus, who was a Jewish historian, wrote about that gate, and he said it was made of Corinthian brass, but it was overlaid with panels of silver and gold, and, as the sun would come up over the Mount of Olives and shine down on that temple mount, it would strike that gate. It would be absolutely dazzling, so they called it the Gate Beautiful.
There lies this man a lowly beggar
By the law not even allowed into this temple
3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.
Looking for money to fix his situation
4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.
To serve someone you must first look
5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.
6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.
Better than gold!
7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ancle bones received strength.
8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.
God got him from lame to leaping!
9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God:
only right response!
10 And they knew that it was he which sat for alms at the Beautiful gate of the temple: and they were filled with wonder and amazement at that which had happened unto him.
11 And as the lame man which was healed held Peter and John, all the people ran together unto them in the porch that is called Solomon’s, greatly wondering.
Let’s examine this man and his story! There is so much good truth for us here today!
Unable to walk
He was born lame!
Can I tell you that just like this man was born lame each of us was born with a problem
We all know that the problem is sin.
Romans 5:12
Unable to worship
His condition disqualified him to go worship in God’s presence
2 Samuel 5:8
He also just couldn’t go in
In the same way sin has broken our worship!
Col 1:21
Sin ruins relationships!
Unable to work
He could not improve his situation
Money may come but it wouldn't fix. A cure may even come but it couldn’t help.
It would only be Jesus and his mercy that would fix this man!
The same is true for us! Jesus came to seek and save!
Luke 19:10
Acts 3:16-18 “16 And his name through faith in his name hath made this man strong, whom ye see and know: yea, the faith which is by him hath given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all. 17 And now, brethren, I wot that through ignorance ye did it, as did also your rulers. 18 But those things, which God before had shewed by the mouth of all his prophets, that Christ should suffer, he hath so fulfilled.”
I challenge you with what Peter presented him. Have faith in the name of Jesus! We must have faith in HIS name!
