Samson

Samson To begin with this is an interesting story that have real life applications. The story of Samson is famous because he was considered the strongest man to ever live on earth. Samson lived under the Nazarite Order. and The story goes that Samson’s mother couldn’t have children and the bible never mentions her name but God Intervenes. His father Monoah had a visit from The Angel of The Lord and told Monoah that he and his wife would have a baby and call his name Samson.The Angel said that Samson must be raised as a Nazarite. A Nazarite was consecrated unto the Lord. A Nazarite must Never cut his hair. A Nazarite must not drink wine or whiskey. A Nazarite must not come in contact with the dead. And a Nazarite must not be associated with Heathen women out side of his race.

Here’s a brief history lesson inside the lesson about the Nazarite order as it relates to Jesus Christ. Jesus was consecrated to the Lord from birth. Jesus was a Nazarite and He never cut his hair. As A Nazarite Jesus’ first miracle was to turn water into wine that was against the Nazarite tradition. Jesus also raised Lazarus from the dead and he wasn’t supposed to have nothing to do with the dead. then Jesus talked to the Samarian woman at the well and the Jews and the Samaritan had no dealings with each other because they were a different race of people. I don’t care what race you are If you want to be friendly with me I want to be friendly to you. So That’s was just a few little known facts.

And so the bibles says in Judges 14:1-4 that Samson falls in love with a Philistine woman and marries her despite his parents warnings against it. Brothers and sisters,Samson got a hard head and a strong will.But you can’t blame him for his desires. Because

2. God Moves Here’s what I mean 1. The girls from Philistia must have been some kind of pretty because Samson could not! stop talking to them and getting involved with them. 2. God influenced Samson’s heart to marry this Philistine girl in order to create trouble and cause confrontations with the Philistines. The Philistines dominated the Israelites at this time in biblical history. And the Philistines didn’t like the Israelites. Then brothers and sisters

3. God Empowers Because the bible says in Judges 14:5-9 In the process of Samson's travels he encounters an young lion. Samson doesn’t have any weapon in his hands but yet he kills the lion with his bear hands. Samson was the strongest man on earth. Greek mythology have Hercules But in the bible have Samson.. After a while Samson comes and find the dead lion full of honey bees and somehow he get honey from the carcass of the dead lion he eats the honey then bring some home and gave some to his parents and they eat some wild honey. And for the record Samson was in direct violation of the Nazarite Law for coming into contact with the dead. And then he was deceitfully kind because he the bible says that he didn’t tell his parents where he go the wild honey from. If your children drop off a wad of money and say here mom here dad and you know they aren’t working you ought to be saying where this money come from? and how did you get it?

So Samson gave a feast for his first wife and put forth a riddle about the dead lion and sweetness and fro seven days they couldn’t find out But Samson’s first wife was approached by their leaders. They said Find out his weakness and we’ll kill him. They said and if you don’t go along with it we’re going to kill your whole family. So she was trap by circumstances. And sometimes in life you ask yourself Nah Why did she turn on me when I know she liked me very much. I know he and him was cool.Why did they turn on me? Sometimes people are under pressure from outside forces that you can’t control. She asked him and Samson told her. And she told them.

And so the bible says in Judges 14:10-20 4.God Enabled God enabled Samson to kill thirty men of Askelon and give the changes of clothes as he promised to the philistine men as retribution for the philistine leaders forcing his heifer wife to betray him. he was mad.

But then the Philistine’s woman daddy gave her to another man, Samson’s friend. Friends like that you don’t need no enemies. Right there Samson should have been through with those people.

And so Samson is angry and In Judges 15:1-8 5. God Allows Samson Revenge because during the harvest time Samson went and got some foxes and tied their tails together with a firebrand on each of the foxes tails, and cut them loose in the Philistine corn and wheat fields. Needless to say that the foxes destroyed the harvest and Samson has gotten his revenge. Samson’s rationale was “ You gave my wife away to my friend,now I done got you back”. This seems petty and childish but it has real life implications. Because nowadays if the ex husband is upset he’ll come burn your house down.The poor girl scared to death. And the Philistines asked who did this awful deed and everybody said it was Samson. Samson get wind that they are coming after him and he flees to Judah to the Rock of Etam. The men of Israel comes and says Samson have you lost your mind? You do know that the Philistines are more powerful than us right? and they want us to turn you over to them. Samson say ok I’ll go peaceful but promise me that none of you will try to kill me. They said we won’t try to kill you. It’s a hurting feeling to be done in by your own people.If it haven’t happen to you yet, just keep living. So his own people turn him in to the philistines. In Judges 15:9-17 6.God Empowers Samson and Samson waits for the precise moment and break out of the ropes. The bible says He grabs a fresh new Jawbone from a dead donkey and kill 1,000 philistines. Samson was a mighty warrior. But now he’s tired and thirsty from the battle and Samson began to call on the Lord and says Lord I kill the enemies with a Jawbone of a donkey and now I’m going to die of thirst out here. and Judges 15:18-20 7.God Provides says that Jehovah Jireh provides water for him. He prayed and God Provided. In 2023 The Lord will provide for us when we need it.

And then I read that Samson did something else crazy In Judges 16:1-3 Samson done hook up with a prostitute. He can’t get enough of them Philistine women. He seems to foolishly flirt with and potentially fatal situation. I would say to Samson those Philistine girls don’t mean you no good. But Samson is sleeping with the prostitute who being paid to plot plan and pull him down. The Philistine men said early in the morning we’re going to caught him and kill him. But Samson woke up at midnight and snuck out of her house and then for spite broke the city gates off their hinges and carried them away like 10 NFL Linebackers AHHHHH! Samson in my opinion was crazy. Yet God made him a Judge. I’ve seen some unorthodox styles of leadership but this to me is straight stupid. All bronze and no Brains.

But that’s not all because in Judges 16:1-4 Samson sees Delilah and boy oh boy Delilah is drop dead gorgeous from top to bottom. And now Samson in love again. 8.God is Silent Sometimes when we are bent on doing our unholy stuff God is Silent. Because the book of Romans say that after the Holy Ghost warns us and we persist to do things unbecoming of a Christian believer God turns us over to a reprobated mind. God is Silent with Samson because he has violated the Nazarite Order.

In Judges 16:5-22 Drop Dead Gorgeous Delilah finally tricks and traps the strongest man that ever lived. A woman brought him down. How did she do it? 1. She used her skills she said baby how have to manged to be this strong this long… And Samson gests and jokes and lies to her because it’s funny to him. So she binds him with fresh green vines and hollers Samson the Philistines are upon you. He Immediately breaks loose and beat them up. A few nights later she singing and rubbing his head and he got his head in her lap. He’s got his head in the wrong lap. And she says tell me the source of your strength. He laughs it off and says get new ropes that have never been used for nothing else and tie me up tight tight tight. She tied Samson up and Hollered The Philistines are upon you.and that was their cue to barge in. Samson breaks the ropes like toothpicks and beats up the philistines again..

wait nah If that was you, wouldn’t red lights and sirens be blaming in your mind by now!!!!But Samson was over confident, then mix that with cocky arrogant pride and that is a bad formula for all bronze and no brains. Mama Oddie says on Disney movie the princess and the frog You ain’t got the sense you was born with. Then for third time Drop Dead Gorgeous Delilah is humming a sweet tune in Samson’s ear and she says Baby tell me the truth how can you lose your strength? Samson said tie my hair up and put a bobby pin in it and I’ll lose all of my strength. She tie his hair up put a bobby pin in it and holler Samson the Philistines are upon you Samson jumps up the bobby pin pops outs and he beats up the Philistines again.

By now Drop Dead gorgeous Delilah is red hot mad, because she wants to get paid!!! She can’t get paid unless they can capture Samson. And that tells me somebody can be totally intimate with you and pretend to be in love with you but have wayward wicked wrong motives all the while. She didn’t love Samson. But she say you don’t love me at all and she pouts with that pretty little mouth and he falls for it. Samson is laying down with his head in her lap again and she’s humming a tune and he tells her the truth this time…

And Delilah waits until Samson is fast asleep, and the bible says she quietly call for the local barber to come in and shave his head. After Samson’s head is shaved he loses his strength. And Drop Dead Gorgeous Delilah hollers again and says the Samson the Philistines are upon you. Samson jump up and somebody punches him down . That never happen before in his whole life. Samson gets the beat down. The Philistines beat Samson unmercifully .They give him a sally good whipping. It was payback time. The Philistines pocked his eyes out and took the strongest man that ever lived down to the grind mill. They mock him scorn him and beat him daily all because he wanted to lay his head in the wrong lap. When I read this story I discovered that you don’t hear no more about Drop Dead Gorgeous Delilah. After she did him in she was through.. Wasn’t no real love there. And so Samson is at an all time low working at the grinding mill blind day after day from sun up to sundown going around and around. But God Empowers Samson in the end Because in Judges 16:23-31 Samson begins to pray to God. 9. God Empowers Samson Again His hair begins to grow back. The Philistines are not noticing that he’s getting stronger and stronger. Samson repents of his sins and ask for forgiveness. He said Lord please give me my strength one more time. The Philistines were partying and toasting and make fun and sport and mockery of Samson and his God. They said our god Dagon has defeated Samson’s God Jehovah. Then they brought Samson out and put him between the foundations of there temple arena of dagon and the crowds went crazy. Three thousand fans giving thunderous applause to mock Samson. And Samson began calling on the Lord and the Lord strengthened Samson while they are mocking him. He pushes down the pillars of their pagan temple. And those tow pillars held the whole structure up. He kills thousands of Philistines But In the process he kills himself too. The whole building cam down on them. The bible say in his last act of strength Samson killed more Philistines that day, then in all other fights or battles.

This tells me that how ever you live, that’s the way the story will be told when you die. The bible ain’t gon lie for you or lie against you. When God open the book of life it’s going to tell your life’s story. Make it a good story Brothers and sisters.

In Closing the bible says that the Israelites came and got Samson’s body and buried him along side Monoah his father and his mother. In real life just because you can do something, doesn’t mean that you ought to. Amen
