What do I believe God wants them to know? Jesus is the Light; God, salvation, hope, and the path to freedom and life
Why? We are all looking for light
What do I believe God wants them to do? Go to the light
Why? It leads to God, salvation, hope, and freedom and life
ME
One of things I joke about here is the weather, but there is a lot of truth that I share about the weather and my life and our life.
The weather can have affect on our mood and outlook for the day.
If we wake up and it is above 70 and sunny we a great propensity to be happy
Kids if they wake up during the school year and it is snowing like crazy they are happy, we love our snow day
But what about winter
One of things I say a lot about winter is I can handle snow, I can handle cold weather, I can slower traffic (sort of), but ONE THING I CANNOT HANDLE is the lack of SUN
ANYBODY with ME
I can handle a day where it is 0 degrees and the SUN is bursting forth
I can a foot of SNOW if there is a lot of SUN (GREAT NOW THE SNOW IS COMING)
THE REASON FOR THIS IS SOMETIMES IT GETS TO MY MODE
It really sometimes can get to my mode, sometimes.
Cloudy days can really get to my bones…I get tired earlier
There is a biological reason for it....WE ARE NOT GETTING A HIGH AMOUNT OF VITMIN D
I have a sunlight because of this
Robyn suggested I double up on my VITMIN D that has helped
TENSION
The thing I want to talk about today is not the PHYSICAL CLOUDINESS we experience this type of year that can be helped by increasing your VITAMIN D OR GOING TO FLORIDA…ON TOP OF THAT WE HAVE THE HOPE THAT SPRING IS COMING..
WE KNOW THIS SEASON OF WINTER DOES NOT LAST
THING I WANT TO TALK ABOUT IS WHAT DO WE DO WHEN WE EXPERIECNE EMOTIONAL OR SPIRITUAL CLOUDINESS OR DARKNESS
Anybody every experience a spiritual cloudiness or darkness??
If we not in one, it is highly inevitable that we will experience one again, we live in a world of SIN and bad things happen.
A LOT OF US ARE....SOME of it is PTSD from COVID
There is a lack of JOY in the room
Where there is not LIGHT there is no JOY
HOW DO WE GET OUT OF THIS SEASON OF CLOUDINESS? DARKNESS?
GOD
This is the question that the nation of ISRAEL was asking 2000 years ago.
They experienced DARKNESS on PHYSICAL, EMOTIONAL, AND SPIRITUAL LEVEL
THE NATION OF ISRALE WAS UNDER OPPRESSION AND OCCUPATION
THEIR COUNTRY WAS BEING RUN BY ROME, EVERYTHING THAT THEY DID HAD TO GET ROME’S APPROVAL.
NO FREEDOM
NOT ONLY THAT THE RELIGIOUS SYSTEM OF THE DAY WAS LEGATLIST AND CORUPT.
613 law police and they had hundreds more in the misnah
ONE OF THINGS GOD INSTITUTED FOR THEM (AND US)WAS WEEKLY RHYTMN OF A SABBATH....IT IS A WE GET TO DELIGHT IN THE LORD…TO GIVE US LIGHT…THIS IS ONE OF THE REASONS WHY THE SABBATH IS SO IMPORTANT TO US…IT HELPS BRING THE LIGHT INTO OUR LIVES.
And God gave them NEW MOON FESTIVALS AND 7 Feastivals of Celebration to help remind the people of who is God.
SUN, MOON, and STARS
You who rule the PHYSICAL LIGHT ARE GOING to help with the emotional light
We are going to be in one of those today…it was the be second to last FESTIVALS JESUS PARTICIPATES IN
THE FESTIVAL WE ARE IN IS THE FEASTS OF BOOTHS OR TABERNACLES of SUKKOT
This Feast is celebration where the nation of Israel will celebrate for 7 days how God delivered the nation of Israel with His mighty hand from the Nation of Egypt that was enslaving them
They would leave their homes and live in BOOTHS
God provided MANNA from HEAVEN, BREAD
Water from a ROCK
God guided them by a Pillar of FIRE
They would light this 65 GALLON LAMPS in the court of WOMAN were all could see it…it lit up Jerusalem…OUR GOD DELIVERED, PROVIDED, LIGHTED OUR WAY...
PRAISE GOD
Then something happened on the 8th day the day after the FEST of BOOTHS…the lights came down
MAYBE YOU FELT THIS WAY AFTER A SUNDAY WHEN YOU MET THE LORD OR A WORSHIP SERVICE AND MONDAY COMES AND YOU ASK THE QUESTION “DID I REALLY MEET JESUS YESTERDAY? HOW DID I GO FROM SUNSHINE TO DARKNESS IN ONE DAY
ANYBODY FEEL THIS WAY BEFORE?
It is at this time the day after where we pick the story and Jesus meets someone living in darkness
What is going to do with this woman living in DARKNESS and to the nation living in DAKRNESS
John 7:53–8:4 ESV
They went each to his own house, but Jesus went to the Mount of Olives. Early in the morning he came again to the temple. All the people came to him, and he sat down and taught them. The scribes and the Pharisees brought a woman who had been caught in adultery, and placing her in the midst they said to him, “Teacher, this woman has been caught in the act of adultery.
Two witness needed
Where’s the man?
John 8:5 ESV
Now in the Law, Moses commanded us to stone such women. So what do you say?”
TO TEST HIM
You lover of people....what are you going to do???
Deuteronomy 17:7 ESV
The hand of the witnesses shall be first against him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. So you shall purge the evil from your midst.
The one who caught her would be the person who would have to throw the first STONE...
Can you imagine being the woman???
you know what the law says
You also know it is injustice that the man is not there
WHAT DOES JESUS DO?
John 8:6 ESV
This they said to test him, that they might have some charge to bring against him. Jesus bent down and wrote with his finger on the ground.
John 8:7 ESV
And as they continued to ask him, he stood up and said to them, “Let him who is without sin among you be the first to throw a stone at her.”
If you are perfect as you heavenly father is perfect throw the first stone.
John 8:8–9 ESV
And once more he bent down and wrote on the ground. But when they heard it, they went away one by one, beginning with the older ones, and Jesus was left alone with the woman standing before him.
John 8:10 ESV
Jesus stood up and said to her, “Woman, where are they? Has no one condemned you?”
John 8:11 ESV
She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said, “Neither do I condemn you; go, and from now on sin no more.”
ANYBODY BEEN LIKE THIS WOMAN???
committed a sin or sins
You are comdemmed by the CHURCH PEOPLE, YOURSELF “I am a loser”
I remember my own life....there was almost any other sin you can commit, but not anything to do with with sin or her nature
GOD AND SIN NO MORE
Romans 6:1–4 ESV
What shall we say then? Are we to continue in sin that grace may abound? By no means! How can we who died to sin still live in it? Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.
HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE?
FIT INTO JESUS MISSION
John 3:16–17 ESV
“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him.
John 3:18–21 ESV
Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only Son of God. And this is the judgment: the light has come into the world, and people loved the darkness rather than the light because their works were evil. For everyone who does wicked things hates the light and does not come to the light, lest his works should be exposed. But whoever does what is true comes to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that his works have been carried out in God.”
WHO’S THE LIGHT?
Jesus
John 8:12 ESV
Again Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
just celebrated
What does that mean?
SUN LIGHT? NO
3 things, it’s more than that?
I am God…the Pillar of Light
Who is light in the FEST of BOOTHS? Who does it represent?
2. I am the way of salvation
I have come to lead you out of your greatest EGYPT that we are all in of sin death and shame
You know the song you all sing and memorized
Psalm 27:1 ESV
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
That’s me!
The PROPHECY of Is 49:6
Matthew 4:12–17 ESV
Now when he heard that John had been arrested, he withdrew into Galilee. And leaving Nazareth he went and lived in Capernaum by the sea, in the territory of Zebulun and Naphtali, so that what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled: “The land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, the way of the sea, beyond the Jordan, Galilee of the Gentiles— the people dwelling in darkness have seen a great light, and for those dwelling in the region and shadow of death, on them a light has dawned.” From that time Jesus began to preach, saying, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

John 1:1–14 ESV
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life, and the life was the light of men. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it. There was a man sent from God, whose name was John. He came as a witness, to bear witness about the light, that all might believe through him. He was not the light, but came to bear witness about the light. The true light, which gives light to everyone, was coming into the world. He was in the world, and the world was made through him, yet the world did not know him. He came to his own, and his own people did not receive him. But to all who did receive him, who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God, who were born, not of blood nor of the will of the flesh nor of the will of man, but of God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
