Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness,
The waist was typically protested by a girdle in Bible times. This was worn by both men and women, and even soldiers.
Typically, this was a leather belt with leather strips hanging out of it.
Therefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and rest your hope fully upon the grace that is to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;
This girdle of truth is integrity. It is the application of truth and not just the knowledge of it. It is taking what is understood, and believed, and applying it to our daily lives.
The Sword of the Word of God becomes the girdle of truth when we live by the truth that is contained in God’s Word.
that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,
but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—
if indeed you have heard Him and have been taught by Him, as the truth is in Jesus:
The opposite of integrity is duplicity.
Duplicity is hypocrisy-trying to lead a double life. This is trying to live for God and the world. Speaking of obedience to God while yielding to the flesh.
that your charitable deed may be in secret; and your Father who sees in secret will Himself reward you openly.
“No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or else he will be loyal to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and mammon.
Righteousness shall be the belt of His loins, And faithfulness the belt of His waist.
Faithfulness will result in us, as believers, livng the truth.
Jesus said to them, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.
We must live with integrity if we are to withstand the attacks of Satan.
This applies to both individually and the church.
But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh, to fulfill its lusts.
This girdle was technically not part of the armour but was the first piece that had to be placed on. It held the inner garments in place and the robe could be tucked into it for better movement. By tucking the robe into the girdle the wearer could run with their legs unencumbered.
