Genesis 7:22–24 ESV
22 Everything on the dry land in whose nostrils was the breath of life died. 23 He blotted out every living thing that was on the face of the ground, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens. They were blotted out from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those who were with him in the ark. 24 And the waters prevailed on the earth 150 days.
Genesis 8 ESV
1 But God remembered Noah and all the beasts and all the livestock that were with him in the ark. And God made a wind blow over the earth, and the waters subsided. 2 The fountains of the deep and the windows of the heavens were closed, the rain from the heavens was restrained, 3 and the waters receded from the earth continually. At the end of 150 days the waters had abated, 4 and in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat. 5 And the waters continued to abate until the tenth month; in the tenth month, on the first day of the month, the tops of the mountains were seen. 6 At the end of forty days Noah opened the window of the ark that he had made 7 and sent forth a raven. It went to and fro until the waters were dried up from the earth. 8 Then he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters had subsided from the face of the ground. 9 But the dove found no place to set her foot, and she returned to him to the ark, for the waters were still on the face of the whole earth. So he put out his hand and took her and brought her into the ark with him. 10 He waited another seven days, and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark. 11 And the dove came back to him in the evening, and behold, in her mouth was a freshly plucked olive leaf. So Noah knew that the waters had subsided from the earth. 12 Then he waited another seven days and sent forth the dove, and she did not return to him anymore. 13 In the six hundred and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried from off the earth. And Noah removed the covering of the ark and looked, and behold, the face of the ground was dry. 14 In the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth had dried out. 15 Then God said to Noah, 16 “Go out from the ark, you and your wife, and your sons and your sons’ wives with you. 17 Bring out with you every living thing that is with you of all flesh—birds and animals and every creeping thing that creeps on the earth—that they may swarm on the earth, and be fruitful and multiply on the earth.” 18 So Noah went out, and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him. 19 Every beast, every creeping thing, and every bird, everything that moves on the earth, went out by families from the ark. 20 Then Noah built an altar to the Lord and took some of every clean animal and some of every clean bird and offered burnt offerings on the altar. 21 And when the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, the Lord said in his heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man’s heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done. 22 While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.”

(1) From all is good to all is evil
We have begun with the creation of the world, we have witnessed the subtle rebellion of disobeying God in the Garden, we have seen the violent rebellion of Cain when he killed his brother Abel. We then see in the early chapters of Genesis the escalation of wickedness on the earth so that we are told in Genesis 6:5
Genesis 6:5 ESV
5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
Genesis 6:5 LSB
5 Then Yahweh saw that the evil of man was great on the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
From good to evil, from all is good to all is evil. From man created to be in fellowship with God to man in his total depravity being completely at enmity with the Creator.
This is what Paul describes in Romans 1, the great chapter on the sinfulness of all men.
This is what Paul states in Romans 3:23
Romans 3:23 ESV
23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,
This is the personal name of God, Yahweh, not Elohim for God or adonai for Lord and Master. This is Yahweh, God Almighty, the Creator who walked in the cool of the garden with Adam and fellowshipped with His creation.
And notice that evil was great on earth, the very place created by Yahweh in order that His glory and His alone might be great in all the earth.
From all is good to all is to all is evil
And notice that the word man is used, not men. Notice that it is in the singular. The word man - Adam, his intent, his thoughts, his heart. This is intentional. The whole world is evil but Moses wants us to realize that through one man evil came into the world. Through one man death came into the world.
One man was placed in a sinless paradise but he was unable to obey. And now all men are showing that they are just like the first man, they are under the curse of the first man. And since through that one man death came into the world, the entire world of men is about to die.
The world of men is doomed is there any reason for hope?
(2) The first Adam could not obey, the first Noah could only save his family
Think of this:
The first Adam could not obey and, he could not save Eve from Satan
The first Noah obeyed God, and he was able to save his family
But he could only save his family, he could not save the world
With Adam and with Noah, the Lord had to intervene:
The God of holiness shows us that He is also a God of grace and mercy, salvation and redemption.
What the first Adam could not do, the second Adam, Jesus, accomplished IN HIS OBEDIENCE
What the first Noah could not do the second Noah, Jesus, accomplished in His death and resurrection.
But just like Noah and his family had to be in the ark, you need to be in Christ.
1 John 2:2 ESV
2 He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the sins of the whole world.
While Jesus’ death was sufficient for the sin of the world, His death was efficient for those who come to Him by faith. While there was room for others on the ark, only those who responded to the call of the Lord received salvation.
And here is where we find our hope:

The ______________ of the Lord
Genesis 8:21–22 ESV
21 And when the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, the Lord said in his heart, “I will never again curse the ground because of man, for the intention of man’s heart is evil from his youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living creature as I have done. 22 While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease.”
Summer and winter and springtime and harvest, sun, moon, and stars in their courses above join with all nature in manifold witness to thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love.
Great is thy faithfulness! Great is thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see; all I have needed thy hand hath provided. Great is thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
Deuteronomy 31:6 ESV
6 Be strong and courageous. Do not fear or be in dread of them, for it is the Lord your God who goes with you. He will not leave you or forsake you.”
