“ Many Profession Christians will go to Hell “

Luke 14:25-35 ( NIV )
25 “Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said: 26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple. 27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple. 28 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it? 29 For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, 30 saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’ 31 “Or suppose a king is about to go to war against another king. Won’t he first sit down and consider whether he is able with ten thousand men to oppose the one coming against him with twenty thousand? 32 If he is not able, he will send a delegation while the other is still a long way off and will ask for terms of peace. 33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples. 34 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? 35 It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out. “Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.””
Many profession christians that go to church faithfully, work faithfully for the church, give faithfully monetary to their church, but on judgement day will SADLY not make into heaven.
Matthew 7:21–23 (NLT)
21 “Not everyone who calls out to me, ‘Lord! Lord!’ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven. Only those who actually do the will of my Father in heaven will enter.
22 On judgment day many will say to me, ‘Lord! Lord! We prophesied in your name and cast out demons in your name and performed many miracles in your name.’
23 But I will reply, ‘I never knew you. Get away from me, you who break God’s laws.’
When you look at the title or subject of today’s lesson you could say it don’t make sense because how can a CHRISTIAN go to HELL. But the KEYWORD is [ PROFESSION CHRISTIANS ] say they are christians but actually they’re not according to God’s word
Note: We put ALL the emphasis on just BELIEVE BELIEVE, BELIEVE but it’s also the BEHAVIOR that follows the BELIEF. Now BELIEVING in Jesus Christ is the ONLY prerequisite for being a Christian. But the question is, what does it actually MEAN to believe and what does it actually look like to believe. And is your belief consisted with your behavior.
James 2:26 (KJV 1900)
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
Romans 10:9–10 (KJV 1900)
9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.
There is no such thing as salvation apart from lordship
To believe with one’s heart means to commit oneself at the deepest level to the truth as revealed and experienced
Note: Because a spiritually DEAD MAN - male or female, don’t hunger or thirst for God or the things of God.
John 6:52–66 (NASB95)
52 Then the Jews began to argue with one another, saying, “How can this man give us His flesh to eat?”
53 So Jesus said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in yourselves.
54 “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day.
55 “For My flesh is true food, and My blood is true drink.
56 “He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in him.
57 “As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who eats Me, he also will live because of Me.
58 “This is the bread which came down out of heaven; not as the fathers ate and died; he who eats this bread will live forever.”
59 These things He said in the synagogue as He taught in Capernaum.
60 Therefore many of His disciples, when they heard this said, “This is a difficult statement; who can listen to it?”
61 But Jesus, conscious that His disciples grumbled at this, said to them, “Does this cause you to stumble?
62What then if you see the Son of Man ascending to where He was before?
63 “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing; the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.
64 “But there are some of you who do not believe.” For Jesus knew from the beginning who they were who did not believe, and who it was that would betray Him.
65 And He was saying, “For this reason I have said to you, that no one can come to Me unless it has been granted him from the Father.”
66 As a result of this many of His disciples withdrew and were not walking with Him anymore.
Note: So if you are a CHRISTIAN / DISCIPLE and don’t hunger or thirst after God or the things of God you are probably NOT SAVED.
Note: Today we throw this word around (Christian) and expected people to just think that we are WRAPED UP, TIRED UP & TANGLE UP in the Lord. Christian tells of our Position(In Christ) but it don’t tell about our Priorities of Christ(Who’s First).
Note: That’s why Jesus always used the word “ If you are My Disciple “
Note: Much of what Jesus taught would be considered “unpopular” today in many Churches.
Note: Can you imagine people coming to church EVERY SUNDAY to Worship & Praise the Lord but don’t want to hear from Him.
Note: we look at Pastors being HARD & BRUTAL from the Pulpit but Jesus was HARD & BRUTAL with the TRUTH for genuine Transformation.
Jesus said things like;
Luke 13:32 KJV
“And he said unto them, Go ye, and tell that fox, Behold, I cast out devils, and I do cures to day and to morrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.”
Matthew 12:34
O generation of vipers, how can ye, being evil, speak good things? for out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.”
Matthew 23:33
Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell?”
Matthew 23:13
“But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in.”
Matthew 23:16
“Woe unto you, ye blind guides, which say, Whosoever shall swear by the temple, it is nothing; but whosoever shall swear by the gold of the temple, he is a debtor!”
Matthew 23:17
Ye fools and blind: for whether is greater, the gold, or the temple that sanctifieth the gold?”
Jesus gives us a clear blue print
A clear understanding or a clear picture
Of what His expectations are for
Those of us who claim to be His disciples
Luke 14: 25 (NIV)
25 Large crowds were traveling with Jesus, and turning to them he said:
Note: First, in this verse Jesus is going to separate the CROWD from the COMMITTED
Jesus have the crowds a dream of most preachers
But the crowds wanted Cash—Cribs—Cloths but didn’t want Christ
Note: The crowd around Jesus had personal motives
Note: They were not committed to Jesus Christ they were part of the outside crowd of people that may have been curious about Jesus Christ to seen how they can benefit but not be a benefit.
Book: How To Help Your Pastor Succeed — [ The Multitude - The Provisional Disciples - The Inner Circle ]
Note: This crowd had a Preaching Checklist
1. Don’t mention hell
2. Don’t challenge their sin
3. Don’t offend them
4. Don’t go to deep
5. Then that will get them to come back with more people.
Note: Jesus will let them know why most profession christians won’t make heaven.
Reason #1
[ Many Profession Christians don’t elevate their FAITH over their FAMILY ]
Luke 14:26A
26If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters “
“If anyone” (Any Born Again Believer)
Luke 14:26B
26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple.
Note: Some Christians actually believe that family comes before anybody or anything but that’s contrary to Jesus teaching
Mark 3:31–35 (KJV 1900)
. 31 There came then his brethren and his mother, and, standing without, sent unto him, calling him.
32 And the multitude sat about him, and they said unto him, Behold, thy mother and thy brethren without seek for thee.
33 And he answered them, saying, Who is my mother, or my brethren?
34 And he looked round about on them which sat about him, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren!
35 For whosoever shall do the will of God, the same is my brother, and my sister, and mother.
Note: In our society today people definitely put family over faith
Footnote: Some cultures will even have an actual funeral for you. You are dead to them.
Example: Our society today the grandparents running more with their grandchildren than the actual parents. While the grandparents are missing events at their church.
Note: When it comes down to any activity at church and something to do for family at the same TIME on the same DATE which one will be put on the back burner? [ This is exactly what Jesus is talking about ]
Note: Jesus says you must be willing to be disown by your own family members and put your relationship with Jesus in a different category and elevate it above your family if you’re going to be a disciple of mine.
Note: What some profession christians do is allow family who is not serving the true and living God to take them away from serving their God
Qualification # 2
[ Many Profession Christians don’t model Sacrifice over Self-Centeredness ]
Luke 14:26
26 “If anyone comes to me and does not hate father and mother, wife and children, brothers and sisters—yes, even their own life—such a person cannot be my disciple. “yes, even their own life”
Note: Jesus must be first and far most
Note: God’s will first not Our will first
Lord don’t touch my: Career—Money—Family—Dating—Comfort—401K
Statement: Honest talk……we’re afraid to get closer to God in fear of what He may require of us.
Luke 14:33 (NIV)
33 In the same way, those of you who do not give up everything you have cannot be my disciples.
Qualification # 3
[ Many Profession Christians are not will to accept Pain rather than always expecting Pleasure. ]
Luke 14:27
Note: A 1st century Roman, Jews or Gentile they understood what carrying your cross means.
Footnote: “Preaching this may empty the church rather than grow it”
Note: They understood that Christianity could very well cost them Their lives (what the bible meant back then means the same thing TODAY).
Note: Jesus is not promising an easy life
Example: 3rd John 1:2 (KJV)
Prosperity preachers preach this
Qualification # 4
[ Many Profession Christians don’t elevate Relationship over Religion ]
Luke 14:27
27 And whoever does not carry their cross and follow me cannot be my disciple.
In this culture when a Rabbi would invite someone to follow them he was essentially inviting them to be a learner of them. So the question you want to ask here to yourself, Am I Learning — Relationship?
Learning—Growing—Reading—Studying—Obeying—Trusting—Seeking
Religion—>Attending ChurchGiving MoneyShouting in ChurchServing in Church
Note: A True Disciple just don’t stay in the crowd.
Qualification # 5
[ Many Profession Christians don’t value Commitment over Convenience ]
Luke 14:28
28 “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see if you have enough money to complete it?
Note: Jesus is saying you need to consider discipleship before you just jump in —
“It Costs”
Example: Before you get in count the COST — Ministry—Married—Build
Note: We have too many unfinished towers
Qualification # 6
[ Many Profession Christians are not Useful to God but rather Useless to God ]
Luke 14:34-35
34 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? 35 It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out.
Note:
In this day salt was a very very value commodity.
It was used for a seasoning or flavor enhancement and it was also used as a preservative that was able to keep food from spoiling. In both situations salt was used to create change.
If salt was left around the wrong minerals, the salt could very well be contaminated and lose its taste, flavor, and its usefulness.
Note: Jesus is saying Christians are supposed to be Salt—>Change things.
Note: But most Christians are contaminated. — [ Making NO IMPACT on others ]
Note: Salt was also used as a Fertilizer. They would throw salt on top of manure to keep the weeds from coming up.
Luke 14:35
35 It is fit neither for the soil nor for the manure pile; it is thrown out.
Note: Jesus is saying I can’t even use you for a secondary use (manure).
Quote: Are you a disciple or a Christian that’s just going along with the flow
Quote: “So many of us give so little to the One who gave so much”
Quote: “Salvation will cost you nothing, but discipleship will cost you everything”
