I. Who we were
1) explanation
a) Why?
Because remembering who we were in the past helps us to act correctly in the present.
2) illustration
a) don’t forget your spiritual past (guilt, slavery)
Exodus 12:24-27
“Keep this command permanently as a statute for you and your descendants. 25 When you enter the land that the LORD will give you as he promised, you are to observe this ceremony. 26 When your children ask you, ‘What does this ceremony mean to you?’ 27 you are to reply, ‘It is the Passover sacrifice to the LORD, for he passed over the houses of the Israelites in Egypt when he struck the Egyptians, and he spared our homes
b) your financial past (poor and needy) - Jospeh richness

a) constant gratefulness towards Jesus for what you are not anymore (so as not to le righteousness, money and power to change you.
b) did they changed you? Then you forgot who you were!
II. Who we are

because it helps you to act according to your present spiritual identity

a) You are a stranger in this world (don’t forget how you are) Moses
Exodus 18:2-4 Now Jethro, Moses’s father-in-law, had taken in Zipporah, Moses’s wife, after he had sent her back, 3 along with her two sons, one of whom was named Gershom (because Moses had said, “I have been a resident alien in a foreign land”

a) Our relation with our sinful desires is tied to our status as stranger and aliens
1 Peter 2:11 Dear friends, I urge you as strangers and exiles to abstain from sinful desires that wage war against the soul.
b) our relationship with everything earthly is changed we are freed from being emotionally over-attached to everything on earth
Heb 11:13–16. These all died in faith, although they had not received the things that were promised. But they saw them from a distance, greeted them, and confessed that they were foreigners and temporary residents on the earth. 14 Now those who say such things make it clear that they are seeking a homeland. 15 If they were thinking about where they came from, they would have had an opportunity to return. 16 But they now desire a better place—a heavenly one.
III. What the Lord did to us (so you must do what you need for him)
Ps 103:2-5 My soul, bless the LORD,and do not forget all his benefits.3 He forgives all your iniquity; he heals all your diseases.4 He redeems your life from the Pit; he crowns you with faithful love and compassion.5 He satisfies you with good things; your youth is renewed like the eagle

Numbers 10:32 If you come with us, whatever good the LORD does for us we will do for you

Do you have the conviction that God in the future will be as consistent as he was in the past?
Do you doubt God’s provision in times of need?
Do you forget his goodness when others are mean to you?
