Spirit of the rules Devo

Mat. 19:1-12

this passage has Jesus talking about divorce, but more specifically he is pointing out to the people that the law was needed because they wouldn’t have followed the spirit of the rule.

rules and laws are in place to maintain order in a fallen world. they wouldn’t be needed if everyone was living christlike lives because everyone would be perfering others.

they need to be so specific because people keep finding loopholes to get around them. You only need to obey the spcific wording, and so you can get away with things if you’re crafty.

but thats not why the rules are there. use some reading cmoprehensioan and understand the spirit of the rule, and what its actually trying to say

how much better would the world be if people understood the principle a rule was upholding, and did their best to follow it instead of looking for ways around. it would be a utopia.

how would this campus look? the student life department attempts to get us to do this, but they have to constantly remind us to do so. try simply underastanding a principle and upholding it istead of seeing it as a limit.
