Theme: Judgment and Glory
48 chapters; 1,273 verses; 39,401 words
Grade level: 9.8
Author: The Holy Spirit of God by inspiration (2 Tim 3:15) through Ezekiel (1:3; 24:24)
Date Written: 6th Century B.C.
Outline:
I. The Fall of Judah. chs.1-24
II. The Foes of Judah. chs.25-32
III. The Future of Judah. chs.33-48
Very little is known about the conditions in exile from the book of Ezekiel. This is because Ezekiel was describing to the exiles in Babylon what was happening back in Judah. It seems as though the Babylonians did not persecute Ezekiel for his religion, nor did they enslave him. From time to time the elders of Israel gathered together at Ezekiel’s house where he would share another Word from the Lord (8:1; 14:1; 20:1).

Why Judgment Shows Up
Ezekiel 16:44-50
When God brings judgment it is always because of sin.
I, like others, thought Sodom was judged for the sin of sodomy only.
Sodomy is an outward sin and unexpected result of the real PROBLEMS of a society.

I. They Had Internal Problems. v.47

From Satan’s people (“tares” Mt 13)
From God’s people

II. They Had Individual Problems. v.48

Absence of prayer.
Absence of Scriptural authority.

III. They Had Iniquity Problems. v.49

No humility towards God’s position.
“pride”
No hunger for God’s provision.
“fulness of bread”
No heart for God’s plan.
“abundance of idleness”
No help for God’s people.
“neither did she strengthen the hands of the needy”

IV. They Had Infidelity Problems. v.50

Proud of fornication.
Proud of adultery.
Proud of sodomy.

Conclusion:

One solution for God’s people -
Revelation 2:5 Remember therefore from whence thou art fallen, and repent, and do the first works; or else I will come unto thee quickly, and will remove thy candlestick out of his place, except thou repent.
