The Origin of Sex

Genesis 1:27-28 “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.””
Genesis 2:24-25 “Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.”

The Biblical View of Sex

God’s design for sex is for it to be in the context of one man and one woman who are married.
Any sex that is outside the bonds of matrimony is sinful.

What type of sex is sinful?

Fornication
Fornication is any sex outside of marriage.
Matthew 15.19 “For out of the heart come evil thoughts, murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false witness, slander.”
Adultery
Adultery falls under the umbrella term of fornication. Adultery specifically speaks to either a married person having sex with someone other than who he or she is married to or a single person having sex with a married person.
Homosexuality
Romans 1:26-27 “For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. For their women exchanged natural relations for those that are contrary to nature; and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in themselves the due penalty for their error.”
Bestiality
Leviticus 18:23 “And you shall not lie with any animal and so make yourself unclean with it, neither shall any woman give herself to an animal to lie with it: it is perversion.”
Incest
Leviticus 18

What About Polygamy?

Defies God’s original creation.
Is first practiced by a wicked man.
Genesis 4:19 “And Lamech took two wives. The name of the one was Adah, and the name of the other Zillah.”
Polygamy is always portrayed in a negative light.
New Testament teaching forbids it for a believer.
1 Corinthians 7:2 “But because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband.”
1 Timothy 3:2 “Therefore an overseer must be above reproach, the husband of one wife, sober-minded, self-controlled, respectable, hospitable, able to teach,”

Biblical Views on Sex

Two incorrect views:
Sex is only for procreation.
Sex is only for pleasure.
Sex in the context of marriage:
For procreation
For enjoyment
Proverbs 5:18-19 “Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth, a lovely deer, a graceful doe. Let her breasts fill you at all times with delight; be intoxicated always in her love.”
For protection from temptation
1 Corinthians 7:3-5 “The husband should give to his wife her conjugal rights, and likewise the wife to her husband. For the wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Do not deprive one another, except perhaps by agreement for a limited time, that you may devote yourselves to prayer; but then come together again, so that Satan may not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.”
