3 truths about living in Christ-centered community

The foundations of the church began when God called Israel to be His people.
God’s plan was for all people to have the possibility of becoming His people.
When we come to faith in Jesus, God welcomes us into the church.
Galatians 3:26–29 CSB
for through faith you are all sons of God in Christ Jesus. For those of you who were baptized into Christ have been clothed with Christ. There is no Jew or Greek, slave or free, male and female; since you are all one in Christ Jesus. And if you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, heirs according to the promise.
Ephesians 2:19–22 CSB
So, then, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with the saints, and members of God’s household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the cornerstone. In him the whole building, being put together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord. In him you are also being built together for God’s dwelling in the Spirit.

What does it mean to be a member of God’s family?

When we come to faith in Christ, we are adopted by God into His family.
We are joined together with our fellow brothers and sisters in Christ.
Being together as a family mean showing love to one another.
1 John 3:16–18 CSB
This is how we have come to know love: He laid down his life for us. We should also lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters. If anyone has this world’s goods and sees a fellow believer in need but withholds compassion from him—how does God’s love reside in him? Little children, let us not love in word or speech, but in action and in truth.

Living in Christ-Centered Community

As Christ-followers, you are called together as the body of Christ.
As the church, we are the body, but Christ is the head.
We must care for and value every part of the body.
Ephesians 4:15–16 CSB
But speaking the truth in love, let us grow in every way into him who is the head—Christ. From him the whole body, fitted and knit together by every supporting ligament, promotes the growth of the body for building itself up in love by the proper working of each individual part.

3 purposes for being called together as the church

You are to be unified in on mission for God.
You are to be unified in service to one another.
You are to be welcoming to outsiders.
Philippians 2:1–4 CSB
If, then, there is any encouragement in Christ, if any consolation of love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, make my joy complete by thinking the same way, having the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. Do nothing out of selfish ambition or conceit, but in humility consider others as more important than yourselves. Everyone should look not to his own interests, but rather to the interests of others.
Colossians 4:5–6 CSB
Act wisely toward outsiders, making the most of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you should answer each person.
