Intro:
Nemo touch the butt scene
transition: That scene alludes to a fundamental truth: you will serve your master, is it sin or God.
Prop: Obey the good master
Need:
WORLDVIEW - In a culture obsessed with personal rights & freedoms, we need to adapt the true and biblical worldview that none of us are free
EVALUATE OUR MASTER - We need to evaluate our lives and see which master we obey - bc this gives clarity to every decision that we make
REDEMPTION/ HOPE - We need to remember the hope of redemption found in the gospel of Jesus Christ, so that we can kill sin in our life
IDENTITY - Ultimately if we are asking the question “Who does God say I am” - then we need to look no further than Romans 6:16-18 as the answer is clear.
Outline: 2 questions that will tell you who you are

1. IS SIN YOUR MASTER?

Explain:
There is a HUGE misconception that Christianity takes away your freedom
John 8:34 “Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who commits sin is the slave of sin.”
Who you obey is your master
Illustrate:
The vape kid who says I can stop whenever I want
Is the kid choosing to use the vape? YES
Can he actually stop? NO
TRANSITION: This is the slave of sin - Choosing to do sin BUT can’t stop even if they tried
Apply

2. IS JESUS YOUR MASTER? v.18b & 22

Explain:
You can’t go back to sin - v.22 “you’re enslaved to God”
You don’t have to sin - v.18 “freed from sin” v.22 “freed from sin”
You will progressively separate yourself from sin until once and for all - v.19b “sanctification” v.22 “sanctification & eternal life”
Illustrate: William Still
1821, New Jersey
Worked and saved (farmhand, lumberjack, dock worker)
Purchased his freedom
TRANSITION: William needed his freedom purchased and so do you… but no amount of work or good will be able to afford it, no one to your left or right can afford it either -we all have a price to HIGH look at 6:23
Apply
You’re in a stage of life where the temptation is STRONG! and it comes often - would you find ways to remember that Christ is your master and you must not forsake Him
When temptation comes KNOW that it has no power over you - Jesus defeated sins penalty and power so that you can be free from it and able to do good
Conclusion:
Nemo
Matt 11:30 ““For My yoke is easy and My burden is light.””
