Anointed with Fresh Oil

Psalm 92:10 NKJV
But my horn You have exalted like a wild ox; I have been anointed with fresh oil.

The Need to be Anointed with Fresh Oil

When we are spiritually dry.
When our spiritual fire has grown dim.
When we no longer sense God’s presence.
When we have come through a time of intense struggle.
When we yearn to be revived, renewed, and refreshed.
The Hebrew word for “anointed” does not refer to an anointing for power and service but for improvement, invigoration, repair, and renewal.
Does your spiritual life need improvement? Invigoration? Repair? Renewal?
Psalm 92 was written as a Sabbath Day psalm. It gives us key principles to experience spiritual renewal in our lives.

Rejoice in Daily Worship

Psalm 92:1–3 NKJV
It is good to give thanks to the Lord, And to sing praises to Your name, O Most High; To declare Your lovingkindness in the morning, And Your faithfulness every night, On an instrument of ten strings, On the lute, And on the harp, With harmonious sound.
We lose our spiritual vitality when we fail to make worship part of our daily lives.
Worship at the Tabernacle included both morning and evening sacrifices.
Declare His lovingkindness in the morning.
Declare His faithfulness at night.
Beautify your worship with musical instruments.

Recall God’s Works

Psalm 92:4–7 NKJV
For You, Lord, have made me glad through Your work; I will triumph in the works of Your hands. O Lord, how great are Your works! Your thoughts are very deep. A senseless man does not know, Nor does a fool understand this. When the wicked spring up like grass, And when all the workers of iniquity flourish, It is that they may be destroyed forever.
We lose our spiritual vitality when we fail to remember what God has done.
God’s works make me glad!
I will triumph in Your works!
How great are Your works!
God’s works are very deep.
A senseless (brutish) man does not know them.
A foolish (simple) man does not understand them.
The wicked and the workers of iniquity spring up and flourish only to be destroyed forever.

Reflect on God’s Sovereignty

Psalm 92:8–9 NKJV
But You, Lord, are on high forevermore. For behold, Your enemies, O Lord, For behold, Your enemies shall perish; All the workers of iniquity shall be scattered.
We lose our spiritual vitality when we focus on people and problems rather than on the LORD.
The LORD is on High Forever!
His enemies will perish.
The workers of iniquity shall be scattered.

Remember the Reward

Psalm 92:10–11 NKJV
But my horn You have exalted like a wild ox; I have been anointed with fresh oil. My eye also has seen my desire on my enemies; My ears hear my desire on the wicked Who rise up against me.
We lose our spiritual vitality when we focus on the cost rather than the reward.
Their horn will be exalted.
They will be anointed with fresh oil.
Their eyes will see their desire upon their enemies.
Their ears will hear their desire upon the wicked who rise against them.

Receive the Blessing

Psalm 92:12–14 NKJV
The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree, He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon. Those who are planted in the house of the Lord Shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing,
We lose our spiritual vitality when we believe our better days are behind us.
They will flourish like a palm tree.
They will grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
They will flourish in the courts of our God.
They will still bear fruit in old age.
They will be fresh and flourishing.

Report the Goodness of God

Psalm 92:15 NKJV
To declare that the Lord is upright; He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.
We lose our spiritual vitality when we fail to be an active witness for God.
“The LORD is upright!”
“The LORD is my Rock!”
“There is no unrighteousness in the LORD!”
Isaiah 44:8 NKJV
Do not fear, nor be afraid; Have I not told you from that time, and declared it? You are My witnesses. Is there a God besides Me? Indeed there is no other Rock; I know not one.’ ”

Response to the Word

Do you need to receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior?
Do you need to be anointed with fresh oil?
Acts 3:19 NKJV
Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,
