That others maybe set free

The news about what Jesus had done for Lazarus had spread quickly.
Religious leaders heard the news and started plotting against him.
One would imagine that Lazarus would continue to tell the story of what Jesus had done for him.
There are two verses that prove more specifically that what had happened , continued to be a topic of conversation for people.
John 11:45 NIV
Therefore many of the Jews who had come to visit Mary, and had seen what Jesus did, believed in him.
many of the jews who came to mary.... the people that came to be with mary, did not expect for their grieving to be taken away.
When Trent died, and when Beckett died people came to our house to grieve. Imagine the reason for grief being taken away? That’s what Jesus did in those moment for Mary.
saw what Jesus did, believed in Him: this was an impressive work of God. People saw this and placed their trust in Him.
Keeping with Jewish custom, many Jews gathered around Mary and Martha to mourn the loss of their brother Lazarus.
Meaning there would have been a great crowd present.
They watched him shuffle out of the grave.
The result was that they believed in Jesus and that he was the resurrected life.
Likewise, after this weekend others will believe in Jesus because of what He has done in you.
Matthew 5:13–16 NIV
“You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled underfoot. “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
There are going to be people come to know Jesus because of what HE has done in you.
John 20:31 NIV
But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.
The whole point/ mission is belief.
God wants to write a story of our lives so others might believe in Jesus.
John 10:10 NIV
The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.
TRUTH
The miracle wasn’t just for Lazarus and the people who witnessed it.
They shared it.
They told anyone and everyone.
John affirms this truth.
John 12:17 NIV
Now the crowd that was with him when he called Lazarus from the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to spread the word.
Now, what about you?
you are saved to be sent.
you are awakened and it’s not just for you.
remember the words of the great commission..
Matthew 28:18–20 NIV
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Alot of people memorize these verses post them on instagram…but they don’t live them out. This is your mission.
This missions can become ours when we realize .....
The reality that is established.
Matthew 28:18 NIV
Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.
Colossians 3:1 NIV
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God.
2. The responsibility that is given.
Matthew 28:19 NIV
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
3. The reassurance that is provided.
Matthew 28:20 NIV
and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
you have been saved to be sent.
2 Corinthians 5:20 NIV
We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.
The mission matters:
every fire begins with a spark
every revolution begins with a choice
every awakening begins with an individual
A moment in history.
the 1700s an amazing revival and revolution swept across the 13 American colonies.
the great awakening .
George Whitfield and Jonathan Edwards.
religion was stale .
they would go one place to another sharing Jesus.
In a matter of days, people were being changed.
people were being saved left and right.
What mad this powerful is that people were being changed.
-their conversations were different.
their thought life was different
their outlook was different
their actions were different
their passions were different
their desires were different
People were changed… God moved… but somewhere along the way we lost it.
Most of us have gone back to sleep....
A man named Lawrence Tribble was inspired by these events and penned these incredible words in a piece he entitled AWAKEN...
A 1700S POEM
One man awake…awakens another. The second awakens his next-door brother. The three awake can rouse a town by turning the whole place upside down. The man awake can cause such a fuss that it finally awakens the rest of us. One man up, with dawn in his eyes, surely then , multiplies.
Our prayer for this weekend is that we’d see a Tuscaloosa Awakening.
BOTTOM LINE: GOD has awakened you so that you can awaken others.
Ephesians 5:14 NIV
This is why it is said: “Wake up, sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you.”
