We are continuing this morning and first Peter or study there. And how many of you have seen the movie or read the book Charlotte's Web. yes, so many of us are familiar with this and you got this obviously, Wilbur the pig, He's headed to the slaughterhouse. Cute little cuddly, porkchop. And this is fighter besides He's done too cute that you know it wasn't the size and she's going to snuggle and cuddle wilber's using the name. She brings them into her playtime into the home and, and names and Mom and Dad know that is a spring Pig. Going to get the family, need the bacon and eggs with a little girl, just loves the pig. Umm, the pig. And when the pig is in his pen,
has particular spider, Charlotte lights will burn and goes out of her way to try to prevent him from going to the slaughterhouse on the screen through series of webs, as you know, that have message. And I got to thinking about That idea of the inflection is like when you are irritated by other people or some people's kids, or what I mean. Take we've got, we are born again into a Living Hope and then from there because of this new life, there's an expectation and inability to be holy because God is holding. So he has to call to the born-again believer and the first war chapter two since as you come to him. A living Stone rejected by men but in the sight of God Chosen and precious you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house to be a. Holy priesthood to offer spiritual sacrifice is acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. Fruit stands in scripture. Behold, I am laying in Zion a stone, a Cornerstone, Chosen and precious and whoever believes in him will not be put to shame. So the owner is for you, who believe, but for those who do not believe the stone that the builders rejected has become the Cornerstone and a stone of stumbling and a rock of offense. They stumble because they disobey the word that they were destined to do for you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation of people for his possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him. Darkness into His Marvelous Light. Once you were not a people. But now you are God's people. Once you had not received Mercy, but now you have received Mercy. That's what we're dealing with this morning. Let's ask God to bless his father, you know, the time and work with thoughts that have gone into this. And you've brought each of us here with the conditions and circumstances of the week. Probably just said that for you that you would do all that you have purposed in your heart to do this morning and we might receive your word. There might be applied to welcome. Holy Spirit, just continue to move in our church, continue to move in our individual ion, pray in Jesus name, amen.
The opening phrase in verse for a going to do a little bit of Greek wording this morning, Lil b, a t, t, t t? Because it's what I was going to stop by, if I hope you will be too. You know, we've learned that in our English, ain't nothing wrong with it, but sometimes it's super interesting to see some things in the original language. And one of those things is the first phrases as you come to him. I did, you know, I'd look at this particular portion of the text from three different ways, three different styles of studying it coming at it and as I begin to make a light 3/4 ft, 3/4 way through and I have an idea with the tip of the meaning of the test where we going with this and stuff. And I went back to the beginning there with this phrase as you come and I totally dismissed it. Totally dismissed it and I think that's easy to do very as you come in. Okay. What's the phrase? There has a lot of meeting and I are, one on the roll this for you just quickly because it's intriguing. And it's helpful has so much to do with the overall context that were looking at this morning to ask, this is one word agree and what kind of information and we got one Above all we do together. So as deals with the timing, there's a point, there's a duration of time in which something happens. It's as we as we visit as because of doing something, Something else happened. There's a Time. Being performed and you was plural.
During the time when people in the plural collection of people to whom Peters riding, who is identified as those who have trusted Jesus Christ, those who are born again, a holy people into you. It's the floor on when it comes to applying understanding it included in the you. So, as we're doing something. What are we doing? We come to him. Yeah. and you know, we got to a point where we enjoy hearing y'all come when y'all come Something happens and we continue to look here, the text and you all come something happens. Is it a time that the church was near? The god that we become built up your spiritual house? Check it out. Because there's so many phrases, subordinate phrases in the texts and is easy. Maybe get lost in the shuffle. So you got to follow the bouncing ball, I don't become, this is what this passage is about, as we come to him.
it says we have come to him and who's to him, he's talking about Jesus Christ coming to God through Jesus Christ who is worth
Which is weird, like how do you get flag of all the things living? You can think of stones are not one of them and don't you? So it's listening for it, it's ironic to me. He was a chosen to Cornerstone. He was chosen as precious.

He's been sending such a way that he's in movable, but everybody else will try and continue on their own course and they'll stumble and fall becomes defensive to them. He gets in their way to see all the time in the gospels people being offended by Jesus because he doesn't fit their idea of a messiah So becomes a stumbling block verse. 8 includes it says they stumble because they disobey the word and as they were destined to do, just a quick note about men, as they were destined to do. It's interesting to read word can often mean and is used as set. I was set to do if there was anything about Stones being said, There are people who stumble over Jesus Christ, they disobey the word, because it's how they're set, it's how they're oriented. This isn't like a predetermined Mystic thing that God has said. Some of you are irredeemable, that's not what this is. Nothing is certain in their Direction and their direction is Center.
It's nothing that can't be changed by faith in Christ. We staying at centers. That was there. That was upsetting us. That's why they were destined. Stumble and fall. Is it to work? All right, surrounding this text have to do with Jesus Christ as the Cornerstone, which is the next to that way, to go about it. This morning, we're going to talk about the other son. So I'm going back on up here back to versus 5425 as you come to him or back to. Now discussing, the church were discussing the people to whom Peter was writing it applies to you. And I as the church you and I who are born again The Livingstone may have been rejected by men verse for, but in the sight of God, he is chosen these precious you yourself. Like living stones. Are being built up as a spiritual house. So you're a Livingstone as well that he means that each of us is being placed in a spiritual house. I was thinking about the church and thinking about a spiritual building, you thinking about you thinking about me together. God is combining Parts. He's building a spiritual house. We are the living Stone and he is providing this spiritual house. He's building it out of United bringing in the park.
To build something. to build a house or household, it's worth discussing that the word for how spiritual health is used both ways, confuse Us in the physical building. As well as it can be used. Also another ways like the family that would reside inside the physical house. It can also be used to refer to both. You have the physical house in the household, the family inside of it. Again and shove that back in the context of a Peter is unfolding for us and becomes. I think super cool because he's building a spiritual house. It's one that is he sees the spiritual family involved? With real family? Members is a real family, but at the same time he's also building
What's the word? I'm trying not to miss house an entity. He's crafting an entity using the family members. He's putting them together in such a way that isn't afraid of Largent. And this is a spiritual entity and the spiritual entity goes beyond just a limited to just calling a Peter is not being limited to referring as this as living stones together as a spiritual house. Also, we are a holy priesthood. We begin to see shades of Old Testament, stuff. Shades of Temple illusions. To levitical priesthood in the end. Temple purpose. And it's from that, that it's interesting to me that Peter is relying, on the knowledge of his Jewish audience members, who were the Jewish to undertake explain all of this. And that's kind of how we begin to determined that Peter was also writing to Jews, as well as the Gentiles because he doesn't need to explain. What do you mean by priesthood? And an in-house idea in this idea of sacrifice, which brings up And so it may stand for us to just quickly in our minds, go back and think about what, you know, what was the temple for what? What does any of this mean? What does it? What does the spiritual house? What does it mean to be a holy priesthood?
One commentator writes. This, it says here, either reminds his audience of the priesthoods. Ultimate purpose is helpful for us.
Ultimate purpose is written here in this comment that to offer God praise and thanksgiving that's like rush them to offer. God praise and thanksgiving that's what priests to be honest. They are the dwelling, they believe God, the inner Shrine, where in God peculiarly manifested himself, and we're in the holiest, place The blood of the slain sacrifice was presented before. Become a people group. women whom where is being shy? Collective. We do it. Partially is the local shirt that happens globally is the universal church that God has assembled this entity. Purpose. What is dwelling? It is it exists so that is not an afterthought or some organization that didn't exist to get some like tax deductions, which is going away. So that doesn't help. It exists for the purpose of God's kingdom. The advancement of God's glory the ushering in and out of
Wells in our beds, so that the light that he admit, we're going to see the darkness around us. We are being built up spiritual how we mediate his glory. Why do we do this? We have some helpful. , Sir, structures computer.
Why to offer spiritual sacrifice is acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. We are the chicken head for goats spot it or not we're not performing live animal sacrifices Amen, just to be clear. But you submit yourself. You give what energy, you have, you sacrificed? Your energy can do it so that kid.
It's a sacrifice. Our comforter.
I don't like to be uncomfortable to you. this is funny things, I won't do it cuz it's uncomfortable with life, is full of them, discomfort, whether we embark on it willingly or not, But we are not inclined by nature to sacrifice our comfort. Meet me. So we can work a and so, If we set our comfort inside because we know that we can accomplish something for the kingdom. We can accomplish something by bringing up with these is done in your life to someone who's struggling her or just so you know I just have to find it uncomfortable to bring up the topic of Jesus Christ. And we sacrifice our comfort for the greater good which is getting the message of the Gospel across. We find ways with tact and Grace and love food. Is she the conversation and I tell you my story, Into that nature. So sacrifice is spiritual sacrifice has become easy to understand. What kind of time is our time is our energy.
remind me to get specially when it's related to the gospel in meeting people's needs, but my energy IComfort. So that helps a little bit with. Okay. I think that has we stand up in times like Festival anytime God sighting time when we have opportunity in family times at work work time. Whatever. That we would talk about our stories. That there is we have is Believers all experience shades of Darkness. And we have lived in it. And we've seen the difference of His Marvelous Light. and it is, you know,
I think one of my great folks, as I know it has been for decades and passed Rodger to insight into the youngest believers. By telling our story of God's change in our lives, to incite them, to say, there's something that he has for you. There's some marvelous this about 12 to tell me I did something marvelous. But what God has my experience with him. It is not run-of-the-mill, it isn't a Darkness. We can do this by telling others about our experience. Light is a generic moving generic and not unimportant. A movement. What has God done in your life? And you know what? A lot of people have pointed out that no.
Somebody. Or I can tell somebody that Jesus Christ is really dealt with. I think one of the key things in my own life, as my Angry continues to. Put my anger and has it get me as a teenager or younger person. The anger that I felt that

You can argue with me about my experience.
You can say, I don't believe you can argue with. You can't say here's why you didn't experience. as soon as we Proclaim, God's Marvelous Light, It becomes a great and road because people been at the process. Are we Liars or are we not? And was there for me? Always connected to the truth of the Gospel. So he comes down the pike Universe tennis as once you are not a people Once he didn't have a place in my presence, you were not part of this and you were on the outside. Reprobate, Renegades Rebels.
Against God's people used to serve.
Don't call what I've made. Don't call my people, and don't make it. What was unclean at one point is now acceptable. You are God's people. All of you. what you have not received Mercy, but now you have mercy Do you have your seat Mercy? Right? Doesn't that drive the stories that we share about our lives? Good.
Something is amiss. If you not taking stock of the fact of my grade need for Jesus Christ, in his forgiveness, something goes wrong.
You don't be born again and not feel where. God's mercy in your life. It's a misstep.
so, I need to be constantly aware of his mercy and I'll ask, In Charlotte's Web then Burns love for Wilbur. I did burn slow for Wilbur is an example of God's love for us. It was not a skillfully woven spider web that God used to get. The world's attention rather is the cross on which Jesus was crucified. The telegraph. The love God has for his people.
A spider that went across and it means something. The world is aware of the Cross of the demon, I fully understand or appreciate its meaning, that's where we come in. So, we wind this up. God is doing a spiritual house.
You and I together sport again. People whether this church or another local church. Living stones that God is putting together in such a way to create this house. I didn't this house is Gloriana Spirit, dwells. We become the mobile home, that blasts Darkness out, and give light to those who were lost in the invite them in sharing the gospel that we might share about the excellencies of God's Marvelous Light. That's our purpose. How we function,
In the world.

And I never liked. In Arkansas. Kids got Coronavirus. Kids have sports Infamous, the Wednesday night contradiction of school functions and church midweek. Where a kid can be encouraged and love and attention to Paradise. Go through is it's just one example.
So, we try to fit in around a visit. Whereas It makes more sense. Biblically, what? We're getting out of this. Text is like that. You understand it. This is primary Your mission, your purpose. As a group of people is to exist as a spiritual house through which spiritual sacrifices are offered. In the proclamation of the Gospel is given. That's job one. That mean, I will what you say, I'm outside. What I'm saying. I'm saying that I'll be a priority in our hearts and then work out. How does that work?
