If you could boil it down to two things, the Christian life is one of trust and patience. One comes before the other, but they each feed each other. In your trust, you wait for God. In your patience, you see God work, growing trust. There are many places in the Bible where we are told that God is working. Working in us, for us, through us, beside us…but rarely behind us (i.e., pillars of cloud and fire). Except in the creation, God hasn’t been “done” with anything. If you’ve been praying or promised, remember He is not finished yet and doesn’t tire in His work.
