Intro:
The words written in book of John verses 1-4 probably are one of the most important parts of the Bible.
In fact, it probably goes as far as human thought can go. What is the highest thought that a person can have?
It’s this Jesus Christ, who is God's Son, is. God's Word
Jesus Christ is the One Who Made Life
Jesus Christ is the essence and very being of life.
Here is what I realize - To understand what these facts mean, you have to give them a lot of thought.
If you read this passage quickly, you won't be interested and won't even come close to understanding what it's saying.
But the truths are important because they are the basis of life.
You can't say enough about them, because they decide a individuals fate.
If Jesus Christ is God's Word, then people must hear and understand that Word or they will never know who God is and will be lost forever.
4 The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone.
5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.
Jesus is Life !
Jesus
Let’s look at the text
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was in the beginning with God.
Back To Basics
Jesus is the Son of God. Jesus is eternal and has always existed.
Jesus was always there. This means that He existed before the world was made. He'd always been there.
The phrase "in the beginning" does not mean "from the beginning." Already there was Jesus Christ. He was not born, made, or made up. He was always there. He "was with God in the beginning"
5 Now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began.
58 Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, before Abraham was, I AM.”
Here is what we must know and understand, because I think many of us have forotten
I Am means to exist continuously, without a beginning or an end.
2 Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had formed the earth and the world, Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God.
23 I have been established from everlasting, From the beginning, before there was ever an earth.
6 Though he was God, he did not think of equality with God as something to cling to.
7 Instead, he gave up his divine privileges; he took the humble position of a slave and was born as a human being. When he appeared in human form,
8 he humbled himself in obedience to God and died a criminal’s death on a cross.
9 You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though he was rich, yet for your sakes he became poor, so that by his poverty he could make you rich.
John says that Jesus Christ was the Word, the One who had always been there. He was the Son of the God who still lives.
Back to Basics
Jesus existed at the same time. He was and will always be face to face with God.
When I say "With" I mean both "to be with" and "to act toward."
Jesus Christ, who is called "the Word," was with God and did things with God.
He was "with God," which means that he was by God's side and acting, living, and moving in the most intimate way.
Jesus’s relationship with God the Father was the best and most ideal. Their life together, including their relationship, including their fellowship, and including their connection, was a perfect bond that would last forever.
The bible tells us in John 1:2 "It was the same in the beginning with God,"
1 John verses 1 and 2
"That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and which we have handled, of the Word of life; (for life was shown, and we have seen it, and we testify and show you that eternal life, which was with the Father and was shown to us)" .
You see - John's testimony was that Jesus was the Word, which is the same person who has always been with God.
Jesus Christ was the living God's son.
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
John never said that "the Word" was “The God:. He says that God was "the Word" John was telling us that Jesus Christ, who is called "the Word," has the same nature and character as God the Father, but is not the same person.
Jesus is not the same person as God the Father, but He has the same nature and perfection as God the Father.
When a man looks at Jesus Christ, he sees a separate person, but that person is made of the same stuff and has the same character as God in all of His perfection.
Hebrews 1:3 (NKJV)
"Who, being the brightness of his glory and the exact representation of his person, and holding everything up by the word of his power, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high when he had taken away our sins by himself"
Jesus was talking with one of his follower’s In John 14:9
"Jesus asks him, "Have I been with you for so long, and you still don't know me, Philip?" whoever has seen me has seen the Father, so why do you say, "Show us the Father?"?" (John 14:9).
We are talking about Jesus Christ! - Let’s Not forget who we are referring to! We must reestablish our knowledge of who Jesus Is!
Romans 9:5 (NKJV)
"Christ came, and he is above all. God bless him for all time" (Romans 9:5).
15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.
1 Tim 3:16 reminds us
"And there is no doubt that the mystery of godliness is great: God was seen in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, preached to the Gentiles, believed in the world, and taken up into glory."
16 And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS
John's testimony was that Jesus Christ was the Word, that He was self-existent and eternal, and that He was the most powerful person in the universe. Jesus Christ was the living God's son.
You Must Know who Jesus Is
Jesus Christ will never die. This tells us a lot about Jesus that is important.
Jesus shows us God, who is the most important person in the entire universe. He tells all of us everything that God is and wants to say.
So, Jesus must be carefully studied, and everything He is and says must be paid the most attention to
24 “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who hears My word and believes in Him who sent Me has everlasting life, and shall not come into judgment, but has passed from death into life.
Jesus shows exactly who God is. He is exactly the same as God, so when we look at Jesus , we see God
In Jesus we see that God is so much more than anyone we could have ever thought of.
God is kind and caring,
God is full of goodness and truth,
God won't stand for murder, stealing , lying, or cheating, He doesn’t care if it's done to a husband, wife, child, neighbor, brother, sister, or stranger. He will ultimatrely deal with it
God wants a perfect world full of people who choose to love, people who choose to worship, people who choose live, and people who choose to build a kingdom work for Him.
He is working on this, and he is moving toward it
24 “I tell you the truth, those who listen to my message and believe in God who sent me have eternal life. They will never be condemned for their sins, but they have already passed from death into life.
25 “And I assure you that the time is coming, indeed it’s here now, when the dead will hear my voice—the voice of the Son of God. And those who listen will live.
26 The Father has life in himself, and he has granted that same life-giving power to his Son.
27 And he has given him authority to judge everyone because he is the Son of Man.
28 Don’t be so surprised! Indeed, the time is coming when all the dead in their graves will hear the voice of God’s Son,
29 and they will rise again. Those who have done good will rise to experience eternal life, and those who have continued in evil will rise to experience judgment.
Back To Basics
The very nature of Jesus is to exist forever.
The very nature of Jesus is to exist in a state of perfection,
The very nature of Jesus is to know nothing but perfection forever.
The very nature of Jesus is to live forever in perfect community and friendship
I believe the nature of Jesus Christ will be passed on to those who believe, so we will experience all three of these things.
That’s why he says in John chapter 14 and verse 20
"On that day, you will know that I am in my Father and that you are in me and that I am in you" (John 14:20).
29 For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.
Back to Basics
Jesus Christ is the Creator: Jesus made everything.
I need you to think about this - keep this in your mind
Jesus created "All things"
I’m talking about every part of creation, not just creation as a whole.
Jesus made every element, thing, being, and person, whether they are made of matter, molecules, atoms or spirit, whether they are angels or people.
Jesus created everything
16 Through his power all things were made—things in heaven and on earth, things seen and unseen, all powers, authorities, lords, and rulers. All things were made through Christ and for Christ.
Let me tell you when you see the words "were made" it mean "came to be" or "became."
Pay attention :
There was nothing there—nothing real, nothing at all.
God didn't use something less than perfect from outside of Himself to make the world. Jesus the Word, needed nothing but His own will and power. He spoke the Word, and out of nothing, He made everything!
Jesus was the one who made everything, one thing at a time. He was the one in the Godhead who did things. He was the one who made everything. His job and duty was to make things
16 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him.
First Corinthians chapter 8 verse 6 says
"But for us, there is only one God, the Father, from whom all things come and in whom we live, and there is only one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom all things come and through whom we live." (1 Cor. 8:6).
2 And now in these final days, he has spoken to us through his Son. God promised everything to the Son as an inheritance, and through the Son he created the universe.
We must get back to basics
Jesus made everything" is a true statement about the world.
"Without Him, nothing that was made would have been made," says the absolute truth.
Jesus had a hand in making everything. "Without Him, nothing was made," the Bible says.
The words "not anything" mean that not even one thing, not a single thing, not even a detail was made apart from Him.
God owns the world. He made each part of it one by one.
God doesn't live in some faraway place, far from the world, where he doesn't care about what happens there. God cares about all of humanity. He cares very much, even about the smallest things and people. He is concerned about everything and everyone.
This world's problems are not caused by God or the way He acts. The problems in the world are caused by sin, or the bad thoughts and actions of people.
Man and his technical skills are not the answer to the world's problems.
Jesus is the answer. We need to turn to Jesus, give up our lives, and surrender to him so we can know him in the most personal and intimate way possible.
Then and only then can we arrange our lives and the world the way God wants us to.
You Must Know Who Jesus Is!
4 In Him was life, and the life was the light of men.
5 And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.
Jesus is the Source of Life and Light:
Jesus is Life Christ is life
Jesus is where light comes from. the Bible says "Christ's life was the light of men,"
From the beginning, we were meant to know that life and get to know God on a personal level.
The life of Jesus Christ was meant to be a light for people,
The life of Jesus Christ was meant to be a beam that would.
• give us real life, both abundant life and life that lasts forever.
The life of Jesus Christ was meant to Give men energy and drive so they can walk and live the way they should.
Let me see if I can say it another way - Jesus’s life was meant to be the light of man's path from the start.
Jesus’s life was meant to be a power of living for us
Jesus’s life was meant to be a force of living for us
Jesus’s life was meant to be an energy of living for us
Jesus’s life was meant to be a principle of living for us
Jesus’s life was meant to be a quality of living for us
Jesus’s life was meant to be an essence of living for us
Jesus’s life is the light that shows us his purpose, his meaning, and his importance on earth.
10 The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.
25 Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.
Back To Basics
We need a solution to the darkness in this world
Jesus is the solution to the darkness.
Jesus - his life did shine in the dark
Since sin brought darkness into the world, the life of Christ was the light of humanity, Jesus is the beam that showed us the way, the truth, and the life
Jesus shows us how God wanted us to live.
Jesus shows us the truth of life, which is the truth about God and man and the truth about this crazy world.
Jesus shows us how to save our life and avoid things that can cause us to stumble and lose our life.
12 Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
In John 12 and 46 he says
"I have come into the world as a light, so that whoever believes in me will not stay in darkness" (John 12:46).
Don’t ever forget who Jesus Christ is! Don’t let the world or pop culture define for you who Jesus Christ is! We must know Jesus For ourselves! He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords! He is the author and the finisher of our faith!
Going back to Basics means we walk in the Light of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior
God Bless You and God keep you is my prayer!
