Intro

Prophet to the Mountains 7 and Trees 20:45

Ezekiel is called to set his face toward and prophecy to so many things that can’t hear him
to the mountains of his nation where the high places are that will be brought low
to the forests that will have all that is green in them taken away, all the signs of a prosperous land destroyed
to the city of Jerusalem and the cities of Judah and Israel over and over and over again
all these to things that can’t hear from miles and miles away
as if God is trying to say that the whole nation of people should be crying out, but because they won’t call out to the inanimate and see if they will lament instead

Losing his Wife 24

God makes one object lesson that would be impossible to bear with any sanity
Ezekiel does as God commands
the people will lose what was once dear to them
what they thought was their greatest delight will be razed with everything else
even after this Ezekiel carries on without question

Bones and Flesh 37

Ezekiel is whisked away again by the power of God
in the middle of the valley filled with bones
God asks a question that only God can answer and his humble servant knows this
God calls Elijah to prophecy to the bones, speak of what is going to happen
Then you shall know that I am the LORD
God has called Ezekiel to do so many things so that others will understand
this one time, God assures Ezekiel alone that he is God and shows him that even though it seems like there is no hope, he is the God who can bring life and breath and hope to even a valley of dry bones

Application

Our God does what he says he will do
he speaks a lot in this book about his wrath on those who have chosen over and over again to hide from him and try to worship other things where they think God can’t see
but he ends with this amazing and mysterious and powerful message of hope
God can bring life to that which has long been dead
he can restore what has been lost with a word
that was God’s message to his people who felt lost then and it is God’s message to you when you feel lost now
that same God can restore the light in you, has said he will resurrect those who follow him and what he says he does
that’s how we know that he is God
