I Corinthians 14:38-39 “If anyone ignores this, he will be ignored. So then, my brothers and sisters, be eager to prophesy, and do not forbid speaking in tongues.”
I was raised in a Pentecostal church. I can tell you some stories! Most are amazing, some are scary. Here's some observations I can pass on:
The Holy Spirit is NOT weird -- people are!
The Holy Spirit is NOT forceful -- demons are!
The Holy Spirit doesn't equal emotional, but the Holy Spirit does affect our emotions.
The flesh exalts self -- The Holy Spirit exalts Jesus.
The Holy Spirit doesn't just make you run and shout - He also makes you love your neighbor. Repent, apologize, and humble yourself. And keep your mouth shut.
The power of God can make people tremble or fall, but you need not help the Lord by pushing people. You might build you ego, but you will hurt His character.
Praying or singing in tongues to God does NOT need to be interpreted (it's to Him only). It brings personal edification. A message in tongues TO the church must be interpreted. It brings corporate edification when everyone understands.
A "word from God" (prophetic utterance) always confirms the written Word of God and never contradicts it. The Holy Spirit inspired the written Word.
There's an appropriate time for spiritual gifts in the service, but not when it interrupts the preaching of the Word. If the Holy Spirit inspired the sermon, why would He forcefully interrupt the message? That's confusing.
Bottom line?
Let all things be done decently and in order, and as always, seek to let the Spirit of God lead you!
One thing is for sure, a church full of the Holy Spirit is NOT boring!
