Starting Out Strong

Story about doing the 100 mile bike ride with Bear and failing
I started out strong, in fact I started out great, but I wasn’t able to keep the cadence and I wasn’t even able to finish the race.

How Many of Us Struggle with that in our lives?

We start a
Project
a new healthy habit
a new dedication to God
ect.
Just to lose motivation and we fail

Today lets talk about passion

Do you remember a time that you felt completely on fire For God?
a time that you felt like you could do anything
lets look at a boy that felt that way
1 Samuel 17:45–46 NIV
David said to the Philistine, “You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.

David was passionate in his faith, he trusted God

3 thing that David did that gave Him this passion
He worshipped God everyday
He looked for Gods will
and He Trusted God
David was Passionate for God and was willing to risk everything for God.

When we have that passion for God, we can stand up to Giants

We bold proclaim The good news
we seek ways to obey God
we are willing to do things that don’t make sense to Non believers

But what about when we grow complacent?

2 Samuel 11:1–2 NIV
In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king’s men and the whole Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem. One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful,

David grew complacent

David was not where He was suppose to be
He went against God
He did not own up to his mistake
He was in bed and went out seeking

David took His eyes off of his calling and put them on his comfort

We we grow complacent

We fall to sin easier
we don’t take risks
David took a risk standing up to a giant

Taking Risks help shape us, even if we fail, and our failures help shape our success.

When we are passionate we take risks to further the Kingdom
Like talking to strangers about Christ
we go to other countries to spread the gospel
We give up our time and spend it with God

Peter’s Risk

Matthew 14:28–31 NIV
“Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water.” “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
Peter took a risk because of his passion, He failed but that failure taught him
and then Peter in Act 2 Gave a amazing sermon and stood up and became the Rock
Where is you faith Closing
2 Timothy 4:7 NIV
I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.
