2 Timothy 3:1–6 (KJV 1900)
1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves,
covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
Warnings are good.
Watchmen with discernment
Wisdom filled servants
Lovers of their own selves = Self consumed, self centered, self focused
As Christians we should be focused on others
Covetous = inability to be satisfied; Insatiable desires
Boasters =
Proud =
Blasphemers =
Disobedient to parents = increasing to never before seen rebellious spirit
Unthankful = grace; expression of thankfulness, a deep feeling of appreciation
understanding we have been blessed by God and others
no longer thankful for the good he’s been given; not thankful for the kindness of others
Provision
Work
Sacrifice
A spirit of entitlement = owed something for nothing
Government wants it’s population to depend on them
Someone who is unthankful believes that what he has is owed to him.
Downtown Atlanta, Masked activists dressed in all black threw rocks and lit fireworks in front of a skyscraper that houses the Atlanta Police Foundation, shattering large glass windows. They then lit a police cruiser on fire, smashed more windows and vandalized walls with anti-police graffiti as stunned tourists scattered.
Atlanta police on Sunday identified the six suspects – all of whom but one came from out of state – involved in the outbreak of violence.
The suspects included Nadja Geier, 24, of Nashville, Tennessee; Madeleine Feola, 22, of Spokane, Washington; Ivan Ferguson, 23, of Nevada; Graham Evatt, 20, of Decatur, Georgia; Francis Carrol, 22, of Kennebunkport, Maine; and Emily Murphy, 37, of Grosse Isle, Michigan
Unthankful = total disregard for the work it takes to manage a business and the lives affected by their unthankfulness
“Those who are unthankful will make infeasible demands of others in their life; relatives, friends, colleagues, lovers will all be made to feel they owe the unthankful one.”
Unthankfulness = No value in what others have given
Unthankfulness also is evident when one lashes out at another for not meeting demands or giving what was requested.
Those with unthankfulness take but rarely give, they think they are superior to others.
Qualities of the Unthankful:
1. Inability to feel shame
Conviction = The ability to understand a need for a course correction.
Joh 16:7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
Joh 16:8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
Joh 16:9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
Joh 16:10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
Joh 16:11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
Reprove = to confute, admonish: - convict, convince, tell a fault, rebuke, reprove.
There is a serious problem when you as a parent or guardian cannot reprove someone in your care
Alcoholism
Obesity
Drugs
Gender
Loss of remorse
Humiliation of being wrong
Inability to admit wrong
Healthy disgrace for transgressing
Moral subjectivity
2. Arrogant Verbal Defiance
A strong desire to shame others that would correct them
They will attempt to destroy others by revealing flaws to build a case that will discredit any adversary to their lifestyle.
Proverbs 9:8 (KJV 1900)
8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: Rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee.
3. Unreasonable Expectations
Retaliating when others fail to meet their unrealistic demands in regards to how they are treated
4. Disregard for boundaries
Godly Standards
Protective Boundaries
There is no way to remove all boundaries from life
We have local laws
We have Federal laws
We have natural laws
We have spiritual laws
Biblical, Godly, Spiritual Boundaries are a good thing
Romans 1:18–32 (KJV 1900)
18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who hold the truth in unrighteousness;
19 Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them.
God shows it:
Lying, stealing, fornicating...
20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:
Why is the knowledge of a Creator God being wiped out of secular education?
Is it because they have the truth or they have a better idea? No, they have ridiculous myth - just wait a billion years to see if it’s true
molecules to man evolution is a myth built on sinking sand
Those that do not believe in God are entitled and unthankful
21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened.
Didn’t Glorify God for what HE has done
Neither were thankful
Then to vain imaginations = devices full of vain images
Then to a darkened foolish heart
22 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools,
23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Androgynous = an-droj-uh-nuhs
neither clearly masculine nor clearly feminine in appearance:
Baphomet was incorporated into other occult traditions as a powerful figure, often depicted as a winged man with the head of a goat.
24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves:
25 Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.
The elevation of people
The elevation of God’s creation
Elevating an educator more than Jesus
Elevating sports players more than the Lord
Elevating Judges
26 For this cause God gave them up unto vile affections: for even their women did change the natural use into that which is against nature:
Homosexuality is against nature
27 And likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust one toward another; men with men working that which is unseemly, and receiving in themselves that recompence of their error which was meet.
28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;
29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,
30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,
31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:
32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.
5. Obedient only for personal gain
1 Put them in mind to be subject to principalities and powers, to obey magistrates, to be ready to every good work,
17 Obey them that have the rule over you, and submit yourselves: for they watch for your souls, as they that must give account, that they may do it with joy, and not with grief: for that is unprofitable for you.
18 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
15 And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to the which also ye are called in one body; and be ye thankful.
Screwtape Letters:
Screwtape counsels Wormwood to keep the Patient in a state of maximum uncertainty. He should keep the Patient from thinking of his fear as a test from the Enemy and make him think only of the things he fears. Screwtape offers a general rule: encourage the Patient to focus only on objects and to keep him from being self-aware.
Screwtape advises Wormwood to prevent the Patient from thinking of the war and its difficulties as a test sent from God. Instead, the Patient should have no concrete, reasonable thoughts, only vague fears and mixed feelings.
Salvation = how could we ever be thankful enough for salvation
What if that was the only thing we have?
The Bible = Do we love the Word
As of 2022 all of the Bible has been translated into 724 languages, the New Testament has been translated into an additional 1,617 languages, and smaller portions of the Bible have been translated into 1,248 other languages according to Wycliffe Global Alliance.
1.45 billion people, using 5,509 languages, do not have a full Bible in their first language. This includes people who have some Scripture as well as people who have none. It represents about 20 percent of the global population and 75 percent of the world's languages.
