Question 39: What is the duty which God requires of Man?
Answer: God requires man to obey His revealed will.
______________________________________________________________
Scriptures:
8 He has told you, O man, what is good;
and what does the Lord require of you
but to do justice, and to love kindness,
and to walk humbly with your God?
29 “The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things that are revealed belong to us and to our children forever, that we may do all the words of this law.
2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and obey his commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. And his commandments are not burdensome.
23 Jesus answered him, “If anyone loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. 24 Whoever does not love me does not keep my words. And the word that you hear is not mine but the Father’s who sent me.
Key Points here
Last week we saw the benefits of this free gift of Grace we receive.
As we have talked about we did nothing to receive this gift but once we receive it we have a responsibility
We must obey his law
His commandments are not a burden
In fact they are good
They show us he is a God of order
He has a standard
He desires our good
We delight in these because they are not hard but this is how we show that we love him
We follow his law not out of compulsion but because we want to

Scriptures:
14 For when Gentiles, who do not have the law, by nature do what the law requires, they are a law to themselves, even though they do not have the law. 15 They show that the work of the law is written on their hearts, while their conscience also bears witness, and their conflicting thoughts accuse or even excuse them
5 For Moses writes about the righteousness that is based on the law, that the person who does the commandments shall live by them.
