His Name Alone Is Set On High | The Church’s Comprehensive Call To Worship (?)
His Name Alone Is Set On High | The Church’s Comprehensive Call To Worship (?)
Intro Romans 8.18-23 “For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that is to be revealed to us. For the anxious longing of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself also will be set free from its slavery to corruption into the freedom of the glory of the children of God. For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.”
Application
Worship with fear and trembling, clothed with personal holiness - Rev 19:1-8
Ps 96.9 “Worship Yahweh in the splendor of holiness; Tremble before Him, all the earth.”
Obedience and Service (This is what Creation does without fail)
Ps 33.9 “For He spoke, and it was; He commanded, and it stood.”
Ps 19.1-5 “The heavens are telling of the glory of God; And the expanse is declaring the work of His hands. Day to day pours forth speech, And night to night reveals knowledge. There is no speech, nor are there words; Their voice is not heard. Their line has gone out through all the earth, And their utterances to the end of the world. In them He has placed a tent for the sun, Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber; It rejoices as a strong man to run his course.”
Remember that the reason why we worship is because He has made us in His image and saved us
Titus 3.5-6 “He saved us, not by works which we did in righteousness, but according to His mercy, through the washing of regeneration and renewing by the Holy Spirit, whom He poured out upon us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior,”
Spiritual service of worship is to present our bodies sacrificially as set apart to God - this is rational and reasonable as ones who have been saved
Romans 12.1 “Therefore I exhort you, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a sacrifice—living, holy, and pleasing to God, which is your spiritual service of worship.”
Honor the name and character of God
Ps 29.2 “Ascribe to Yahweh the glory of His name; Worship Yahweh in the splendor of holiness.”
In Spirit and truth - Legitimately, come to adore Him empowered by Him
Jn 4.23-24 ““But an hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. “God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.””
Nadab and Abihu

Fiat Creation - God as Creator - Tie in to Christ - Something out of nothing
Co 1.15-20 “Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For in Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things have been created through Him and for Him. And He is before all things, And in Him all things hold together. And He is the head of the body, the church; Who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, so that He Himself will come to have first place in everything. For in Him all the fullness of God was pleased to dwell, And through Him to reconcile all things to Himself, having made peace through the blood of His cross—through Him—whether things on earth or things in heaven.”
John 1.3 “All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being.”
He 1.2 “in these last days spoke to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds,”
Worship of the Name (v5) - Names describe who people or God is
I AM - Yahweh - proclaims His attributes as eternal, self-sufficient, sovereign
Ex 34.6-7 “Then Yahweh passed by in front of him and called out, “Yahweh, Yahweh God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in lovingkindness and truth; who keeps lovingkindness for thousands, who forgives iniquity, transgression, and sin; yet He will by no means leave the guilty unpunished, visiting the iniquity of fathers on the children and on the grandchildren to the third and fourth generations.””
This is His Name - His self disclosure of His nature
Angels - ministering servants that continually see the face of the Lord - they protect, they watch at church
Hebrews 1.14 “Are they not all ministering spirits, sent to render service for the sake of those who will inherit salvation?”
Mt 18.10 ““See that you do not despise one of these little ones, for I say to you that their angels in heaven continually see the face of My Father who is in heaven.”
1 Cor 11.10 “Therefore the woman ought to have a symbol of authority on her head, because of the angels.”
How does this support my Main Point
He created the Heavens and the Earth (v5)
Genesis 1.1-2 “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. And the earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.”
He is over all because He made all and that is why His Name is set on High
He will be treated as holy - Le 10.3 “Then Moses said to Aaron, “It is what Yahweh spoke, saying, ‘By those who come near Me I will be treated as holy, And before all the people I will be glorified.’” So Aaron kept silent.”
Heaven cannot contain Him 1 Ki 8.27 ““But will God truly dwell on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain You; how much less this house which I have built!”
