Intro:
Good morning United Christian Fellowship
Today we are going to talk about love. The word love can mean many different things to different people. It can be about the love between two people, a parent and a child, a teacher and a student, a friend, or even our love for God. Love can be expressed in many different ways and it can be found in all aspects of our lives.
Today, I want to focus on the importance of love in our lives and how it can help us to become better people. Love is a powerful emotion that can bring us great joy and can be a source of strength in hard times. It can also bring us peace, understanding and comfort in difficult situations.
The Bible tells us that God is love. In
4 Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud
5 or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.
6 It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out.
7 Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.
The text reminds us that Love is patient or Love suffers long
means that it is gentle with others. It always means being patient with people, never with things. No matter how bad or hurtful someone is, love in it's time will heal.
• no matter what a loved one does or doesn't do.
Love goes through a lot of pain without getting angry, resentful, or trying to get even. Love has self-control so that it can win over the person and help him live, work, and serve the way he should.
Love is kind that means love is polite, good, helpful, useful, giving, showing, and showering favors. Love doesn't get angry when bad things happen, and it doesn't enjoy being hurt or ignored. Love reaches out in acts of kindness, like being helpful, giving, and doing nice things for the person who hurts or ignores themselves.
10 Be kindly affectionate to one another with brotherly love, in honor giving preference to one another;
Love does not envy
Love is not jealous and doesn't feel bad about what other people have, such as gifts, position, friends, recognition, possessions, popularity, skills, or abilities. Love doesn't get mad, attack, or put down other people's skills and successes. Love enjoys and shares the good things that happen to other people.
26 We must not be proud or make trouble with each other or be jealous of each other.
Love does not boast
Love doesn't brag or boast about itself, and it doesn't look for praise, honor, or recognition from other people. Love, on the other hand, wants to give: to acknowledge, honor, and praise the other person.
In the Book of Romans 12:2 Paul says
I tell everyone among you not to think more highly of themselves than they should, but to think realistically, based on how much faith God has given each person.
Love is not proud.
Love is not arrogant, or conceited. It does not think or act as if it is better or more important than others. Love is modest and humble, and it gives credit and praise to other people.
4 Therefore whoever humbles himself as this little child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Love does not dishonor others
Love doesn't act in an undignified way : in a rude, unmannerly, indecent, or disgraceful way. Love doesn't make you feel bad about yourself. Love is organized and in control, and it treats everyone with respect and honors them for who they are.
In Philippians 4:10 Paul writes
"That you might approve of good things; that you might be honest and not cause offense until the day of Christ" (
Love is not self-seeking,
Love doesn't look out for itself; it isn't selfish and doesn't fight for its own rights Love doesn't care about who you are or what you've done. Love wants to help, not to be helped by others. Love is noticing other people and not insisting that they notice you. It is giving to other people and not insisting that they give to you.
24 Let no one seek his own, but each one the other’s well-being.
Love is not easily angered,
Love is not easily angered, ready to take offense, quick to lose its temper, or "touchy" It's not easy to make angry; it doesn't get "exasperated." Love is in charge of its feelings and never gets angry for no reason.
19 So then, my beloved brethren, let every man be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath;
Love keeps no record of wrongs.
Love doesn't think about the bad things that have happened to it, isn't angry about them, and doesn't hold them against the person who did them. Love takes the bad things that happen to it and moves on.
17 Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable.
Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.
Love doesn't take pleasure in unrighteousness, evil, or doing something wrong. Love doesn't enjoy the wrongdoing and sin of others. It doesn't feed on sin and wrong, and it doesn't tell stories about sin and wrong. Too often, man's nature is shaped by the tragedy of evil, whether it comes from himself or from nature (Just compare the daily news reports and listen to most of the topics subjects of conversation between so many people). It's all about negative things
1 Dear brothers and sisters, if another believer is overcome by some sin, you who are godly should gently and humbly help that person back onto the right path. And be careful not to fall into the same temptation yourself.
Love rejoices in the truth: rejoices when the truth is known and when it prevails; Love rejoices when others are recognized and promoted for who they are and for what they have contributed. Love rejoices when the truth is rooted and grounded in a person and among the people of the world.Love never covers nor hides the truth; love is courageous in that it faces the truth.
16 But this is what you must do: Tell the truth to each other. Render verdicts in your courts that are just and that lead to peace.
Love bears all things: the word bears means both to cover all things and to bear up under all things. Love does both: it stands up under the weight and onslaught of all things and it covers up the faults of others. It has no pleasure in exposing the wrong and weaknesses of others. Love bears up under any neglect, abuse, ridicule—anything that is thrown against it.
2 Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.
3 Make every effort to keep yourselves united in the Spirit, binding yourselves together with peace.
Love believes all things: is "completely trusting" Love is "always eager to believe the best" . Love sees and understands the circumstances and accepts and forgives and believes the very best about a person.
32 And be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God in Christ forgave you.
1 We who are strong must be considerate of those who are sensitive about things like this. We must not just please ourselves.
Love hopes for everything: it "never stops hoping"; it expects the good to win in the end; it won't accept failure; it always hopes for the best and for the good to win in the end, no matter how far things have fallen or how tragic the fall or how hard it seems to win.
16 Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope,
17 comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say.
Love endureth all things: the word endures is a military word meaning to stand against the attack of an enemy. Love actively fights and endures all attacks. Love is strong, full of fortitude and fight, and it struggles against any and every assault to buckle in to being unloving. Love conquers and triumphs—always—because it endures all things. No matter what attacks love, named or unnamed, it endures the attack and continues to love.
58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
These passage reminds us of how powerful and important love is in our lives. We should strive to be patient and kind to those around us, to not envy or boast, and to not be easily angered. We should also protect those we love, trust them, hope for the best, and persevere even in the face of difficult times.
These scriptures are often referred to as the "Love Chapter" and they provides a clear and concise definition of what love truly is.
12 This is My commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.
13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one’s life for his friends.
This passage emphasizes the ultimate act of love, which is to lay down one's life for another. It also reminds us that as followers of Jesus, we are called to love others in the same way that He loved us. This type of love is not easy, but it is the love that God calls us to.
All through the bible there are examples of love! From the love of God for His people, to the love of parents for their children, to the love of friends for one another, the Bible is filled with stories of love in action.
In sum this thing up as Christ followers as Disciples of Jesus Christ, we are called to love others as God has loved us. This is not an easy task, but with the help of the Holy Spirit and by studying and applying the teachings of the Bible, we can strive to love others in the way that God calls us to.
So your call to action is to continue to read and study the Bible, so that you may better understand the love that God has for us and the love that He calls each of us to have for others.
God Bless You and Keep you as we walk in Love
