AG: GOD’S GLORY AT MARANATHA At the 2009 Kansas high school state track championship, an unusual thing happened. The team that won the girls 3,200-meter relay was disqualified. But what happened next was even more unusual. The team that was awarded the state championship by default turned right around and gave their medals to the team that had been disqualified.
The first school, St. Mary’s Colgan, lost first place because judges ruled that a runner had stepped out of her lane as she handed off the baton. That meant the second team, Maranatha Academy, moved up to first. After receiving their medals, the girls from Maranatha saw the downtrodden looks on the faces of the St. Mary’s girls, so they gave them their individual medals. (Illustration by Dave Branon, Our Daily Bread)
They recognized the ones who really one and gave up their medals for them. When we see the glory of God, we too will realize all the praise and worship is His alone.
TS: In ch 60 and following, Isaiah concludes his prophesy with declaring the glory of God and and the wonders of the coming Kingdom.
Remember the prophetic viewpoint we discussed as we have studied
Often He speaks of things close in time, then farther out.
Like viewing mountains.
RS: When we see the glory and goodness of God, we should be moved to worship Him!

1. The dawn of glory (Isaiah 59:20; 60:1-3)

Isaiah 59:20 NKJV
“The Redeemer will come to Zion, And to those who turn from transgression in Jacob,” Says the Lord.
Isaiah 60:1–3 NKJV
Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you. For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you. The Gentiles shall come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising.
Isaiah told the city and the nation Israel that their light had come.
Israel is in light and the world in darkness.
This is painting a picture for us of the glory of Jerusalem in the millennial Kingdom and beyond.
This transcends the physical and moves into the spiritual realm. Isaiah sees beyond the millennial kingdom to the eternal
Revelation 22:1–3 NKJV
And he showed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding from the throne of God and of the Lamb. In the middle of its street, and on either side of the river, was the tree of life, which bore twelve fruits, each tree yielding its fruit every month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and His servants shall serve Him.
Jesus will reign from New Jerusalem over Earth
There is a contrast here:
Light and Darkness
People of God and the world
Glory of God arise and shine over them
This is the point of all creation: Bring glory to God
Once the Lord returns, He will restore all things to original state: good
Nations will come:
This gospel message is universal for all people who are saved, not just blood descendants of Abraham
Believing Jews and Gentiles will enter the earthly Kingdom after the Day of the Lord.
During the 1000 year kingdom, children will be born and in a display of human depravity, even in the perfect word, there will be those who reject King Jesus. At the end of the 1000 years, Satan will be set free for a brief time and many of that new generation will side with him.
However, many will be drawn the Jesus’ light!
This sets up the final confrontation and ultimate end.
AP: We glorify God by our faith
2 Corinthians 1:18–20 NKJV
But as God is faithful, our word to you was not Yes and No. For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us—by me, Silvanus, and Timothy—was not Yes and No, but in Him was Yes. For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.
Trust GOD completely!
Trust his word!

2. The great ingathering (Isaiah 60:4-14).

Isaiah 60:4–14 NKJV
“Lift up your eyes all around, and see: They all gather together, they come to you; Your sons shall come from afar, And your daughters shall be nursed at your side. Then you shall see and become radiant, And your heart shall swell with joy; Because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you, The wealth of the Gentiles shall come to you. The multitude of camels shall cover your land, The dromedaries of Midian and Ephah; All those from Sheba shall come; They shall bring gold and incense, And they shall proclaim the praises of the Lord. All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together to you, The rams of Nebaioth shall minister to you; They shall ascend with acceptance on My altar, And I will glorify the house of My glory. “Who are these who fly like a cloud, And like doves to their roosts? Surely the coastlands shall wait for Me; And the ships of Tarshish will come first, To bring your sons from afar, Their silver and their gold with them, To the name of the Lord your God, And to the Holy One of Israel, Because He has glorified you. “The sons of foreigners shall build up your walls, And their kings shall minister to you; For in My wrath I struck you, But in My favor I have had mercy on you. Therefore your gates shall be open continually; They shall not be shut day or night, That men may bring to you the wealth of the Gentiles, And their kings in procession. For the nation and kingdom which will not serve you shall perish, And those nations shall be utterly ruined. “The glory of Lebanon shall come to you, The cypress, the pine, and the box tree together, To beautify the place of My sanctuary; And I will make the place of My feet glorious. Also the sons of those who afflicted you Shall come bowing to you, And all those who despised you shall fall prostrate at the soles of your feet; And they shall call you The City of the Lord, Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
This again points to the restoration of Israel and return.
God promises to bring the home and ultimate to unite His people.
End of the Babylonian exile
End of the Tribulation
Finally, end of the millennial Kingdom
v. 5 shows 2 benefits of the future kingdom
Rejoicing
Worship and rejoicing will mark our time in the Kingdom
We will sing and declare His praises
For who He is
For all he has done
abundance of material possessions
All needs will be met
He will provide for us (as He does now!)
God mentions the wealthy nations and that commerce flowing through Jerusalem.
Even those surrounding nations will send sacrifices to the worship of God
Trade will flow freely
no greed and corruption will interfere in the Kingdom
v. 12 No enemy can stand against Israel under King Jesus
Isaiah 60:12 NKJV
For the nation and kingdom which will not serve you shall perish, And those nations shall be utterly ruined.
The Lord will rule with a rod of iron
Psalm 2:7–12 NKJV
“I will declare the decree: The Lord has said to Me, ‘You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter’s vessel.’ ” Now therefore, be wise, O kings; Be instructed, you judges of the earth. Serve the Lord with fear, And rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest He be angry, And you perish in the way, When His wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all those who put their trust in Him.
AP: Glorify God by our worship
There is one activity that Scripture associates far more than any other with glorifying God, and that is worship. At its heart, worship ascribes all glory to God alone. We can glorify God in many ways, but Scripture indicates that nothing we do delights God more than calling on his name with sincere hearts and declaring that all glory belongs to him.
DAVID VANDRUNEN The Gospel Coalition
We are to glorify God with all we do, but worship goes even beyond that!
We set come apart from other pursuits and specifically worship Him
When we declare God’s glory in worship, we have the privilege of echoing and joining the angelic song even now, anticipating the day when our co-worshipers will be visible to our eyes and together, in one great company, we will worship the Lamb who was slain.
As church father John Chyrsostom said
Glory be to thee, O Lord, glory to thee, O holy One, glory to thee, O King!
John Chrysostom

3. Heaven where God is the light (Isaiah 60:15-22).

Isaiah 60:15–22 NKJV
“Whereas you have been forsaken and hated, So that no one went through you, I will make you an eternal excellence, A joy of many generations. You shall drink the milk of the Gentiles, And milk the breast of kings; You shall know that I, the Lord, am your Savior And your Redeemer, the Mighty One of Jacob. “Instead of bronze I will bring gold, Instead of iron I will bring silver, Instead of wood, bronze, And instead of stones, iron. I will also make your officers peace, And your magistrates righteousness. Violence shall no longer be heard in your land, Neither wasting nor destruction within your borders; But you shall call your walls Salvation, And your gates Praise. “The sun shall no longer be your light by day, Nor for brightness shall the moon give light to you; But the Lord will be to you an everlasting light, And your God your glory. Your sun shall no longer go down, Nor shall your moon withdraw itself; For the Lord will be your everlasting light, And the days of your mourning shall be ended. Also your people shall all be righteous; They shall inherit the land forever, The branch of My planting, The work of My hands, That I may be glorified. A little one shall become a thousand, And a small one a strong nation. I, the Lord, will hasten it in its time.”
God discusses upgrades all around!
Jerusalem will go from being forsaken and despised to being exalted
Wealth will flow to Jerusalem:
v. 17
Isaiah sees beyond the Millennium:
Revelation 21:23 NKJV
The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light.
Revelation 22:5 NKJV
There shall be no night there: They need no lamp nor light of the sun, for the Lord God gives them light. And they shall reign forever and ever.
No mourning
Revelation 21:4 NKJV
And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; there shall be no more death, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away.”
In the new heaven and Earth, all will be eternally right.
AP: Look forward to the future
While we live here below, we live with an eye on the finish line, heaven
In the meantime glorify Him by serving now
1 Peter 4:10–11 NKJV
As each one has received a gift, minister it to one another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If anyone speaks, let him speak as the oracles of God. If anyone ministers, let him do it as with the ability which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

Conclusion:

God is glorious!
