What Manner of Man is This?
Mark 4:35-41
I. Intro
A. Long Day of Preaching
1. The crowds are so large that Jesus got into a boat, with the crowd gathered along the shore.
2. He began to teach.
B. The Crowd Listens
1. Crowd gathered on the beach.
a. Some sit on the sand as close to the water as possible.
b. Some let the waves creep over their feet.
c. Up the beach a bit, some sit on driftwood.
2. They hear about many parables, including: The Sower & The Mustard Seed—explaining them to the apostles.
C. Finally, Jesus and the Disciples Are Alone
1. They sailed off in the boat.
2. A furious squall came up (literally, a gust of fierce wind) breaking waves over the boat, nearly swamping it.
3. Why was the storm allowed to come up?
II. Body
A. How many storms come up in our lives? (John 16:32-33)
1. List trials from the past week
B. What would the disciples have missed if they had not gone across the lake?
1. The storm, of course.
2. The day of salvation (2 Cor 6:1-2)
3. The day Jesus commanded the winds and the waves.
C. “Who is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!”
1. John 14:6
2. Eph 4:4-8 (captives are the vanquished storms)
III. Conclusion
A. Many Storms
B. One Messiah
C. Victor over All
