You are salt and Light

Matthew 5:13–16 ESV

“You are the salt of the earth, but if salt has lost its taste, how shall its saltiness be restored? It is no longer good for anything except to be thrown out and trampled under people’s feet. “You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.

Jesus is speaking to believers here

You are salt ( preserve the world )

v 13

salt preservative/ flavor enhancer

Sin entered the world the earth has been corrupt

preserve humanity and this world until the last day.

think of a chicken- sin entered the world and the chicken died.

over time, in the same way that chicken would start to decompose, the world and everything in it has started to decompose.

if you skin the chicken and get some salt on the meat, you can preserve the meat to be eaten at a later date.

since the fall of man God has placed men like Noah, Abraham, and Moses to be that salt of preservation.

He has then sent His Son Jesus to be the one who will bring the world to an end and establish a new heaven and a new earth.

this is future.

until then He has called the saints to preserve the world until his second coming.

NEW THOUGHT- when mineing salt there would be slabs that had no flavor and would only be good for placing on walking paths to kill vegetation.

As a christian are you preserving the world or are you nothing more than salt for the path.

How do we preserve the earth?

follow Jesus. simple as that. Get to know him and learn how to follow him and He will make your life salt.

You are light ( expose darkness)

the purpose of light is to expose the darkness

is the absence of darknes- light comes the darkness has no option but to flee

expose the darkness .

Jesus is the light of the world
