The Lord of the Sabbath
Friends, the bride is willing!
Genesis 24:8 And if the woman is not willing to follow you, then you will be released from this oath; only do not take my son back there.”
Revelation 18:4 And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues.
Revelation 18:23 and the light of a lamp will never shine in you again; and the voice of the groom and bride will never be heard in you again; for your merchants were the powerful people of the earth, because all the nations were deceived by your witchcraft
.Genesis 24 recounts the marriage of Issac and Rebekah. As the offering of Isaac by his father Abraham was a clear picture or type of our Heavenly Father's offering of His Son Yeshua, we may also view this marriage as a picture or type of Yeshua's marriage to his Bride. As Eliezer, Abraham's servant was sent into Mesopotamia (Babylon) to find a bride for His son, so God our Heavenly Father sends his Holy Spirit into the world, (now a "Babylon" out of which God's people are called), to find a bride for His Son.And just as Rebekah had to be willing to go with Eliezer, leaving her Babylonian home, the Bride of Christ must be willing to leave Babylon!Robert, Babylon is the present world system, deceiving the world. Leave it behind. You are a Bride preparing to be married soon, to the Lamb of God.
Your family in the Lord with much agape love,George, Baht Rivka, Obadiah and Elianna (Going to Christian College in Dallas, Texas)Thomasville, Georgia
Mark 2:27–28 (ESV) — 27 And he said to them, “The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. 28 So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”
σάββατον sabbaton 68× pr. cessation from labor, rest; the Jewish sabbath, both in the sg. and pl.,
The first place we find rest in the bible is when the Lord ceased from his work for it was finished.
It was instituted within the Constitution of the nation Israel as the fourth commandment
Exodus 20:8–11 (ESV) — 8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor, and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is a Sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, you, or your son, or your daughter, your male servant, or your female servant, or your livestock, or the sojourner who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested on the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
Much to do today with both forgetting the Sabbath and forgetting the Lord of the Sabbath. The gentile nation is not under the Constitution of Israel. The Church in no way has replaced Israel to adopt the Mosaic law code that governs the nation. It was that law code that governed both believers and unbelievers.
The Mosaic law code is not the spiritual life..
It was a gift from God and it was the rest for all life within the land and for the land itself when came to the Yearly rest.
There was the seventh day sabbath providing life rest from its labors.
There was the yearly rest where the Land was to rest
And there is coming a millennial rest where God’s plan and purpose for man is brought back to that purpose.
Jesus said that the Sabbath we made for man for man’s benefit not to burden man subjecting man to it. And as it is scripture it also becomes our school teacher teaching us about God and God’s creative purpose.
Mark 2:28 (ESV) — 28 So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath.”
The centerpiece of the rest is the enjoyment of the Lord of the rest. Which is written in the catecysiam that our aim is…
To Love the Lord and enjoy him forever.
The ultimate rest lies in the future where the ultimate rest is realized.
Revelation 22:1–5 (ESV) — 1 Then the angel showed me the river of the water of life, bright as crystal, flowing from the throne of God and of the Lamb 2 through the middle of the street of the city; also, on either side of the river, the tree of life with its twelve kinds of fruit, yielding its fruit each month. The leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. 3 No longer will there be anything accursed, but the throne of God and of the Lamb will be in it, and his servants will worship him. 4 They will see his face, and his name will be on their foreheads. 5 And night will be no more. They will need no light of lamp or sun, for the Lord God will be their light, and they will reign forever and ever.
Now I pondered about the fact that all the commandments are morally right and by the breaking of them one is operating in sin. So if nine of them were a sin why not the fourth which is keeping the holy day holy which incidentally is not Sunday but our Saturday?
After all, if you are going to keep the Law we are to keep it perfectly.
Rest comes to the Christian not on a given day but all who are joined with the Lord has joined him in his rest.
Hebrews 4:9–11 (ESV) — 9 So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, 10 for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. 11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience.
Like the rest of the Mosaic law code that some well minded but misinformed Christians seek to do is not the standard by which we live our spiritual lives but becomes and indictment that we are yet sinners in need of forgiveness so that we can enter into rest.
Stealing is a sin. Murder is a sin and the Lord said that if you are angry at your brother you have committed murder in your heart. Adultery is a sin. Jesus raises that, that to look at another woman as you would your wife that is adultery in your heart. Where there is sin there is dysfunctionality in your relationship with the Lord and there can be no rest.
Keeping the Sabbath by not mowing your yard on a given day does not make you a better Christian. Coming into his rest is not about a day but it is about the person whose rest he welcomes us in.
Matthew 11:28–30 (ESV) — 28 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
It is Jesus Christ who is the rest for the Christian 24/7.
We have Choice moment by moment. We can toil in sin, or we can rest in the Lord. When Jesus came upon the scene the Lord of the Sabbath offers that rest to each of us.
In Matthew account we read
Matthew 12:1–7 (ESV) — 1 At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry, and they began to pluck heads of grain and to eat. 2 But when the Pharisees saw it, they said to him, “Look, your disciples are doing what is not lawful to do on the Sabbath.” 3 He said to them, “Have you not read what David did when he was hungry, and those who were with him: 4 how he entered the house of God and ate the bread of the Presence, which it was not lawful for him to eat nor for those who were with him, but only for the priests? 5 Or have you not read in the Law how on the Sabbath the priests in the temple profane the Sabbath and are guiltless? 6 I tell you, something greater than the temple is here. 7 And if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless.
David to assuage his hunger and the hunger of his men desecrated the temple. The Religious person would have a problem with this. But Jesus who is the Lord and the Judge holds them guiltless.
As our school teacher the ritual points to something greater than a day.
2 Chronicles 6:18 (ESV) — 18 “But will God indeed dwell with man on the earth? Behold, heaven and the highest heaven cannot contain you, how much less this house that I have built!
Isaiah 66:1 (ESV) — 1 Thus says the Lord: “Heaven is my throne, and the earth is my footstool; what is the house that you would build for me, and what is the place of my rest?
Matthew 12:41–42 (ESV) — 41 The men of Nineveh will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for they repented at the preaching of Jonah, and behold, something greater than Jonah is here. 42 The queen of the South will rise up at the judgment with this generation and condemn it, for she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon, and behold, something greater than Solomon is here.
Jesus said that he did not come to abolish the Law but to fulfill it. To accomplish all that was to reflect God’s glory.
As we celebrate a day of rest regardless of the day we do, and we take the day to reflect on the Lord of the rest it is done so as a response to who and what the Lord is and not in regards to religious practices
It is not a person religious practices that moves him closer to the Lord. It is funny to look back on every one who suggested to me that doing work on Sundays was a sin and yet they themselves seemingly had no regard or love for the Lord as indicated by all of their other indulgences.
Matthew 12:7 (ESV) — 7 And if you had known what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the guiltless.
Lord of the Sabbath.—As being Himself the Divine Rest and the Divine Celebration, He is both the principle and the object of the sabbath; He rests in God, and God in Him: hence He is the Mediator of proper sabbath-observance, and the Interpreter of the sabbath law
The Mercy comes out of ones relationship with the Lord.
How does one acquire such rest which is proper orientation to the Lord of the rest?
Through intimacy with the Lord through his word. Lets go back to the Christian sabbath
Hebrews 4:9–12 (ESV) — 9 So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, 10 for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. 11 Let us therefore strive to enter that rest, so that no one may fall by the same sort of disobedience. 12 For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Through the proper inculcation of the God’s word within the heart that replaces the rebellion which once circulated there is the release of the chaos that once kept the believer off balanced which produces the rest within ones life.
When that happens there is the true sabbath and that true sabbath is ones walk with the Lord.
Shall we take a day where we cease from our work. I believe with regard to health both mental and physical there is an importance to it and is proper before the lord as he designed the body to work six days and rest on a seventh. I call Sunday the Lord’s day. The day I set aside my labor to worship corporately setting aside my labor. I am reluctant to touch my lawn mower, wash my van, do labor. Is it because I am religiously constrained?
No.
It is a response to what the Lord of the Sabbath has given me. When the Lord’s day that I have devoted to Him is over I take my rest on to and into the following week because I take the Lord of the rest with me.
