Nehemiah 8:10 Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat, drink the sweet, and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared; for this day is holy to our Lord. Do not sorrow, for the joy of the Lord is your strength."

This verse in Nehemiah connects the observance of a Holy day with the joy of the Lord. Our identity as "saints" (literally, "holy ones"), called to be holy, means we are and ought to be set apart from the world. But does that mean a solemn and joyless life of boredom as some have been led to believe? I have heard statements like, "I'm miserable, but at least I'm holy!" No, to be simultaneously holy and miserable is "oxymoronic" (if I may coin an adjective). It contradicts the very Spirit of God!The Lord has given us life and life abundantly; [John 10:10] that is a life full of love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, faith, meekness, and self-control. [Galatians 5:22-23] When someone truly sets himself/herself apart for God and His purposes, he/she will be filled with God's supernatural joy. It is not a superficial "happiness," an inability to mourn or empathize with others in pain, but a deeply positive strength that comes from above, a joy that imparts God's power by His spirit.

FRiends , holiness and joy are intimates. Turn your frown upside down and take hold of a deep spiritual truth, "The joy of the Lord is your strength!

Jesus had drawn the battleline against the Religious leaders. They were out maneuvered, brought down to size and embarrassed by Jesus with little on his part at all. They like their Father, Satan, could feel that their authority which they coveted so much was slipping away.

The Herodians saw the growing movement as a threat where loyalties were directed away from the dynasty of Herod which was Edomite that is descendent from the older brother of Jacob, Esau. Those who love power demand absolute loyalty.

And like their Father Satan, the Powerful religious and political leaders will not succeed but will be destroyed themselves in the end.

Even today we can see how the church (which is not the church) join forces to thwart the plan of God. IN WWII the religious rite sided with and allied with Hitler in order that it might hold on to its power which was headquartered in Rome. When the Russians took over Romania, again the church sought to ally with the political power in order to keep power. And it will be the same when the anti-Christ comes on the stage.

What the Pharisees did secretly will now be brought out in the open as they sought to put Jesus to death. They will draw on every evil device and stop at nothing to see this man brought down.

Evil has its time, and allowed its say for a short period.

God is Just. Functioning out in the darkness is outside the sustaining power of God. Evil cannot sustain itself indefinitely, And considering one is dead, and the dead is subject to decay. And therefore in a little while those who opposes God, God’s Son, God’s plan of redemption, and those who belong to the Lord that they take their swings at, will soon be no more.

Psalm 37:1–7 (ESV) — 1 Fret not yourself because of evildoers; be not envious of wrongdoers! 2 For they will soon fade like the grass and wither like the green herb. 3 Trust in the Lord, and do good; dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness. 4 Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart. 5 Commit your way to the Lord; trust in him, and he will act. 6 He will bring forth your righteousness as the light, and your justice as the noonday. 7 Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices!

Mark 3:7–8 (ESV) — 7 Jesus withdrew with his disciples to the sea, and a great crowd followed, from Galilee and Judea 8 and Jerusalem and Idumea and from beyond the Jordan and from around Tyre and Sidon. When the great crowd heard all that he was doing, they came to him.

The Pharisees and the Herodians witnessed the growing threat. They couldn’t just arrest or kill Jesus on the spot without causing a national riot among the people. They would have to either bid their time or somehow turn the people’s hearts against this Rabbi.

Matthew 12:15–21 (ESV) — 15 Jesus, aware of this, (the conspiracy to Kill him) withdrew from there. And many followed him, and he healed them all 16 and ordered them not to make him known. 17 This was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah: 18 “Behold, my servant whom I have chosen, my beloved with whom my soul is well pleased. I will put my Spirit upon him, and he will proclaim justice to the Gentiles. 19 He will not quarrel or cry aloud, nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets; 20 a bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not quench, until he brings justice to victory; 21 and in his name the Gentiles will hope.”

Matthew quoted Isaiah 42:1-4

18 “Behold, my servant whom I have chosen,

3816. παῖς pais, paheece; perh. from 3817; a boy (as often beaten with impunity), or (by anal.) a girl, and (gen.) a child; spec. a slave or servant (espec. a minister to a king; and by eminence to God):—child, maid (-en), (man) servant, son, young man.

Jesus is the Christ the anointed one whom God himself chose special for the task of faithfully carrying out his orders. He is the lamb that is carefully chosen by God to take the sin of the world.

My Beloved in whom My soul is well-pleased;

At the baptism

Matthew 3:17 (ESV) — 17 and behold, a voice from heaven said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased.”

And at the mount of transfiguration

Matthew 17:5 (ESV) — 5 He was still speaking when, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”

God’s chosen one whom God is well pleased, what does that make anyone who rejects, stands opposed, sins against in their standing with God?

God has a favorite and that favorite is his son. And we should take warning that we are to pay homage to the son.

Psalm 2:10–12 (ESV) — 10 Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. 11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.

Isaiah 11:2 (ESV) — 2 And the Spirit of the Lord shall rest upon him, the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, the Spirit of counsel and might, the Spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord.

And He shall proclaim justice to the Gentiles.

56.25 κρίσιςf, εως f: the administration of justice—‘justice, fairness.

Judgment is a two edged sword. It is God’s justice that distributes blessing to those whom God’s righteous demands and it is cursing to those who God’s righteousness demands cursing.

he will bring forth justice to the nations.

The Lord comes as a suffering servant just as it was that Joseph came to Egypt. There were those who mistreated Joseph. Acted unfairly toward him and treated him as he was nothing. But then he was exalted at the right time and given power that was only second to the King of Egypt. Now it was that Joseph was in position to deal with his enemies if he so chose.

Those that defy the son with no seemingly repercussions will one day have to stand before the one whose been given all authority from God and they will be judged guilty while those in oppression who stood for the name of the Lord will be vindicated.

Matthew 12:19 (ESV) — 19 He will not quarrel or cry aloud, nor will anyone hear his voice in the streets;

Meekness is power under restraint. Under the doctrine of Kenosis the son did not give up any of his divine attributes but voluntarily restricted them to take on the form of man. At any moment Jesus could have stopped the abuse. With but a word the awesomeness of His Divine nature, His glory could have exploded on the scene and stopped the hearts of his oppressors. And even this day as there is those who stand opposed and how it is that the Lord seems so quiet he allows evil to have its say until his gavel falls and deals with evil completely.

Jesus knowing the conspiracy to kill him could have said…

“Oh yeah, lets just see about that. I will show them!”

No, he simply removes himself from the threat for his time had not come yet. And what would it have cost any one of us with regard to our own salvation.

Matthew 12:20 (ESV) — 20 a bruised reed he will not break, and a smoldering wick he will not quench, until he brings justice to victory;

12:19–21. This passage stresses Jesus’ meekness, in contrast to the warlike Messiah many people hoped for; this was the reason for the messianic secret

Christs call involves both power and suffering in their conflict with satanic forces. He comes as a suffering servant, it is in meekness the power under restraint in perfect submission to the fathers plan and purpose.

We wince at the horrors that Christians are subjected to. As Jesus took the wounding of the heal so does the bride. As bad as we want justice to come at this moment we must also understand that once the door of the ark is shut, our family friends loved ones who are without Christ will be desperately lost. But that door is closing, and sin will not be allowed to perpetuate indefinitely otherwise the Lord will be not just at all.

21“And in His name the Gentiles will hope.”

Abraham was promised that all families of the earth will be blessed.
