Bible study, Hebrews 8:1-7
main point, this is the whole reason of what is being said from previous text.
This should focus our eyes to this chapter!
“We” Have such a great high priest.-
who is the “we”, what do you think this would have meant in that day?
Remember the context if why this book is being written.
“sat down” Patty said something I really liked “Jesus sitting down means that His work was accomplished”
2. What building did Jesus ever enter to sprinkle?
or building did he make?
Chapter 3 of this book makes it pretty clear that the building of His house that is comparative better than that of Moses house means that Jesus has a people who follow Him.
Jesus is known as “tabernacling” amongst us in John 1:14.
And that he bore our sins upon the tree.
3. Why could Jesus offer something that we cant?
& What is it that Jesus offered?
4.Why Is Jesus not a priest if He had not died and was resurrected?
this is answered for us in the next verse
5. the law in verse 4 (judicial and ceremonial law of moses) federal headship, the tabernacle, the gift and sacrifices… served as a copy and shadow of the substance.
meaning that when the substance comes there is no longer a need for those things.
Jesus has fulfilled those things.
If He had not killed and rose again but instead remained (not died) then there would be a need of the other high priest priest, because why? because these things shadow the heavenly, which Christ actually really did fulfill because he rose.
notice “serve copies and shadows”.
The copies and shadows are never the substance.
analogies… how can this be helpful to remember when talking to Hebrew Israelites or mormons that teach that there has to be a restoration for the “lost” things in order to have a true saving faith.
6.
How is Jesus better than Moses?
didn’t Moses set the captives free, lead them across dry land?
stroke the rock for water?
lift up a staff that cured the people?
receive the law?
Jesus took our captivity, carried us away from our enemy, was struck so that we could drink everlasting water, was lifted up to cure us, and fulfilled the law that none other could keep.
Jesus is the antitype of these other event.
He is the pinnacle of events and prophecy.
Often though people see the stories in the Old Testament and desire to have participated in them, but what we participate in today is far better as we participate in His better more excellent ministry.
What is the better covenant?
we will study this extensively next week.
What were some of the promises that were promised to the ethnic jew for obedience to the covenant of old?
How were they punished for not obeying?
7. was the first covenant faultless?
Why was it full of fault?
who did it depend on?
Is the second covenant better than the first?
