The Call of Discipleship
The Call of Discipleship
The crowds and the disciples
The crowds are welcome to follow after Christ in a life of discipleship
The disciples, though they have already followed after Christ are called to a deeper relationship of discipleship
Judas does not take up this offer
It is a open call to all
Whosoever will come
The call is given but it is the hearer who must make the decision to pursue Christ with his/her life
The Cost of Discipleship
The Cost of Discipleship
These all must be done together. It is not a pick and choose but a life of costly discipleship
Let him deny himself
Let him take up his cross
Let him follow me
The Reward of Discipleship
The Reward of Discipleship
Christ offers us something greater than the whole world
Saving of our soul (our whole being)
The whole world will pass away but Christ offers us eternal life with him
The folly of pursuing the world
Luke 12:13-21 This night your sould shall be required
Christ offers us this power before the coming of the glory
Just as the day appears before the sun is risen into the sky, so the power of Christ’s glory has come into this world
The Kingdom of God is pouring into this world through his Spirit
This is evidenced in the transfiguration of Jesus on the mount
Mark 9:2-13 The overflow of power shown forth
This power is given to the church through the power of the his Spirit
On the day of Pentecost, God poured out his spirit on his people
