Paul’s thorn

The Complete Word Study Dictionary: New Testament (4647. σκόλοψ skólops)
4647. σκόλοψ skólops; gen. skólopos, masc. noun. Something pointed, sharp, as a stake, the point of a hook, a thorn, prickle (Sept.: Hos. 2:6). In 2 Cor. 12:7, “a thorn in the flesh,” something which causes severe pain or constant irritation, probably some bodily infirmity, equal to asthéneia (769), sickness, weakness.Syn.: ákantha (173), a thorn, brier.

To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me.
Something which causes physical irritation; an irritation which was a gift from Satan.

A thorn that may be greater than just an irritation

The word for thorn is skolops which was derived from the Latin word crux which is a “cross”.

Plead = everything from beg to comfort. exhort, strongly call out

God’s grace is all we need when it comes right back to it. We find the ultimate power of God when we admit we are too weak to handle it ourselves.

Boast in our infirmities.. that doesn’t make sense.

Claim God’s power= (dynamis) is the word we get dynamite from or dynamo.
the weaker we are the bigger the gap of our ability to accomplish the task. God can fill ALL that gap and wants to.
We hear keep going til it feels good, but it should be go until God’s loves shows through.

That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
Take pleasure(delight, rejoice) in:
weakness: sickness, infirmity, long term illness
reproaches: harm caused by injurious treatment, insults that harm.
Necessities: Something that is of a necessity(can be willingly or imposed by others. often a result of depravity(can be spiritual, or religious, social, financial, etc.)
persecution: persistent attacks from someone in the attempt to bring harm or perceived need for change.
distress: : Trouble that seems to be pressing in on you, pressure packed problems, something or someone who brings undue pressure.
Lean on The Lord and He will give you the strength you ne.
