This Week’s Theme: God is our Guide
This Week’s Word is God’s Guidance: God has purposes and plans for his people, as individuals and communities. Believers and churches should seek his direction and counsel in discerning these purposes and plans in their lives.
Memory Verse: Psalm 32:8
Essence of the Text in a Sentence: After delivering His people, God led them by way of the wilderness with a cloud by day and fire by night.
Sermon Proposition: After Christ has delivered His people, God leads them the way He wants them to go.
Sermon Objective: I want those in attendance to look in the Bible to find who God guides, when God guides, how God guides, and where does He guide.
Sermon Text: Exodus 13:17-22
Exodus 13:17–22 NKJV
17 Then it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, “Lest perhaps the people change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt.” 18 So God led the people around by way of the wilderness of the Red Sea. And the children of Israel went up in orderly ranks out of the land of Egypt. 19 And Moses took the bones of Joseph with him, for he had placed the children of Israel under solemn oath, saying, “God will surely visit you, and you shall carry up my bones from here with you.” 20 So they took their journey from Succoth and camped in Etham at the edge of the wilderness. 21 And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night. 22 He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people.
INTRODUCTION:
TRANSITION:

I. GOD LIBERATED THEM

Exodus 13:17
Exodus 13:17 NKJV
17 Then it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, “Lest perhaps the people change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt.”

Ruled Them

Exodus 1:11 NKJV
11 Therefore they set taskmasters over them to afflict them with their burdens. And they built for Pharaoh supply cities, Pithom and Raamses.

Rough with them

Exodus 1:13–14 NKJV
13 So the Egyptians made the children of Israel serve with rigor. 14 And they made their lives bitter with hard bondage—in mortar, in brick, and in all manner of service in the field. All their service in which they made them serve was with rigor.
Exodus 14:30 NKJV
30 So the Lord saved Israel that day out of the hand of the Egyptians, and Israel saw the Egyptians dead on the seashore.
Bound but God bailed them out
Enslaved but God emancipated them
Subdued but God set them free
Lock down but God liberated them
What about you?
Restrained by sin but God released you
Shackled by sin but God set you free
Detained by Satan but God delivered you
Our Response
2 Timothy 4:18 NKJV
18 And the Lord will deliver me from every evil work and preserve me for His heavenly kingdom. To Him be glory forever and ever. Amen!

II. GOD LED THEM

Exodus 13:17-18; 20-21
John 3:16 NKJV
16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
Exodus 13:18 NKJV
18 So God led the people around by way of the wilderness of the Red Sea. And the children of Israel went up in orderly ranks out of the land of Egypt.

His Discernment

Exodus 13:17 NKJV
17 Then it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God did not lead them by way of the land of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, “Lest perhaps the people change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt.”

His Direction

Exodus 13:18 NKJV
18 So God led the people around by way of the wilderness of the Red Sea. And the children of Israel went up in orderly ranks out of the land of Egypt.

His Dominion

Exodus 13:21 NKJV
21 And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night.
Exodus 14:20 NKJV
20 So it came between the camp of the Egyptians and the camp of Israel. Thus it was a cloud and darkness to the one, and it gave light by night to the other, so that the one did not come near the other all that night.
Exodus 10:23 NKJV
23 They did not see one another; nor did anyone rise from his place for three days. But all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.
Our Response
Psalm 25:4–5 NKJV
4 Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. 5 Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day.
Psalm 31:3 NKJV
3 For You are my rock and my fortress; Therefore, for Your name’s sake, Lead me and guide me.
Lead my eyes to see it Your way
Lead my feet to walk in Your path
Lead my hands to work in Your service
Lead my mouth to speak according to your word.
Lord Lead Me
Lead me to holiness
Lead me to righteousness
Lead me to love
