REVELATION - The Interlude and the 144,000 part 2
SLIDE 1 “WORSHIP IMAGE SLIDE”
Closing words from worship time
If you had working clothes for worship, what would they be?
1 Chronicles 16:7 David brings the ark into the tent of meeting
David assigned the Levites from his family to give thanks and worship
Continually before the ark of the Lord they blew trumpets and gave thanks
Night of Worship this Wednesday
Comments from giving statements
I stayed up and watched “Its a Wonderful Life”
SLIDE 2 “GEORGE BAILEY OFFICE PHOTO SLIDE”
George Bailey’s Office / Picture of his day with a quote under it
Remember and remind kids to watch this movie
This movie will help remind you of why God placed you here
Every aspect of life is covered in this movie
We started the next part in Revelation chapter 7 last week
SLIDE 3 “THE INTERLUDE AND THE 144,000 IMAGE SLIDE”
All the events we have seen in heaven in first 5 chapters
One of the most important verses we saw was “Come Up Here”
A verse starting chapter 4 after chapter 1 is about Jesus and His church
SLIDE 4
Revelation 4:1 NASB95
1 After these things I looked, and behold, a door standing open in heaven, and the first voice which I had heard, like the sound of a trumpet speaking with me, said, “Come up here, and I will show you what must take place after these things.”
Jesus has started opening the scroll of 7 seals and events taking place on earth
Events as tribulation and great tribulation
Remember for the follower of Christ this is not a book of apocalypse
Even broken down this way in the Greek definition for the word Revelation
In chapter 6 we saw the events on earth with each seal as its opened
SLIDE 5
SCROLL OF SEVEN SEALS
1st Seal - White Horse (Antichrist)
2nd Seal - Red Horse (no peace / war)
3rd Seal - Black Horse (famine)
4th Seal - Pale Green (death - 1/4th of the earth))
5th Seal - Martyred Souls under Altar (tribulation)
6th Seal - Great Earthquake (kings and rulers hide)
Chapter 7 were we were at last week
SLIDE 6
Revelation 7:1–2 NASB95
1 After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth, so that no wind would blow on the earth or on the sea or on any tree. 2 And I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, having the seal of the living God; and he cried out with a loud voice to the four angels to whom it was granted to harm the earth and the sea,
SLIDE 7
Revelation 7:3–4 NASB95
3 saying, “Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees until we have sealed the bond-servants of our God on their foreheads.” 4 And I heard the number of those who were sealed, one hundred and forty-four thousand sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel:
Last week I had shared about how God gives the winds to blow
What and important part it plays in the earths function
No book in the bible describes God’s awesome power for everything we have here on earth like the Book of Job
A Godly man who is tested by satan / satan destroyed and killed much of his belongings and family
A messenger comes to Job and tells him of these events
While his servants were plowing with oxen the Sabeans came and struck them with the sword
Fire fell from heaven and consumed his servants and sheep
Chaldeans came on camels and struck the other servants with the sword
Another servant comes and tells Job this news, KI thought was interesting since includes wind
SLIDE 8
Job 1:18–19 ESV
18 While he was yet speaking, there came another and said, “Your sons and daughters were eating and drinking wine in their oldest brother’s house, 19 and behold, a great wind came across the wilderness and struck the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young people, and they are dead, and I alone have escaped to tell you.”
Job’s 3 friends come and try and console or find reason why all this has happened
They also go on for the next 33 chapters looking for these reasons and why God does the things He does or how He judges
So after all this the Lord has heard enough and comes down in a whirlwind and speaks Himself
The Lord actually goes on for 2 more chapters describing His power in all creation and life in the heavens and on earth
SLIDE 9
Job 38:1–3 ESV
1 Then the Lord answered Job out of the whirlwind and said: 2 “Who is this that darkens counsel by words without knowledge? 3 Dress for action like a man; I will question you, and you make it known to me.
SLIDE 10
Job 38:4–5 ESV
4 “Where were you when I laid the foundation of the earth? Tell me, if you have understanding. 5 Who determined its measurements—surely you know! Or who stretched the line upon it?
SLIDE 11
Job 38:6–7 NASB95
6 “On what were its bases sunk? Or who laid its cornerstone, 7 When the morning stars sang together And all the sons of God shouted for joy?
Remember The Lord will go on for two more chapters describing in detail about the animals He has created
But another interesting thing he also starts describing darkness and wickedness in next verses ahead
Look at this 38: 6-7 here on the screens again
Something has changed form verse 7 here and next verses of what the Lord mentions at time to time
Who are these sons of God?
Remember I mentioned last week why things really escalate to the condition they are in Revelation and why God has to deal with it and those that are responsible.
If I study these sons of God in this verse, this is what I get
SLIDE 12
sons of God - A group of heavenly beings who married the daughters of man and bore children with them
SLIDE 13
Genesis 6:1–3 ESV
1 When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, 2 the sons of God saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. 3 Then the Lord said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.”
SLIDE 14
Genesis 6:4–5 ESV
4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of man and they bore children to them. These were the mighty men who were of old, the men of renown. 5 The Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.
SLIDE 15
Psalm 82:1–2 ESV
1 God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment: 2 “How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? Selah
SLIDE 16
Psalm 82:3–4 ESV
3 Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. 4 Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.”
SLIDE 17
Psalm 82:5 ESV
5 They have neither knowledge nor understanding, they walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken.
SLIDE 18
Psalm 82:6–7 ESV
6 I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you; 7 nevertheless, like men you shall die, and fall like any prince.”
SLIDE 19
Psalm 82:8 ESV
8 Arise, O God, judge the earth; for you shall inherit all the nations!
SLIDE 20
Deuteronomy 28:13–14 ESV
13 And the Lord will make you the head and not the tail, and you shall only go up and not down, if you obey the commandments of the Lord your God, which I command you today, being careful to do them, 14 and if you do not turn aside from any of the words that I command you today, to the right hand or to the left, to go after other gods to serve them.
SLIDE 21
Deuteronomy 28:64 ESV
64 “And the Lord will scatter you among all peoples, from one end of the earth to the other, and there you shall serve other gods of wood and stone, which neither you nor your fathers have known.
SLIDE 22
Job 1:5 ESV
5 And when the days of the feast had run their course, Job would send and consecrate them, and he would rise early in the morning and offer burnt offerings according to the number of them all. For Job said, “It may be that my children have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts.” Thus Job did continually.
SLIDE 23
Job 1:6–7 ESV
6 Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the Lord, and Satan also came among them. 7 The Lord said to Satan, “From where have you come?” Satan answered the Lord and said, “From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down on it.”
SLIDE 24
Job 1:8–9 NASB95
8 The Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered My servant Job? For there is no one like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, fearing God and turning away from evil.” 9 Then Satan answered the Lord, “Does Job fear God for nothing?
