Title: Pursuing our heavenly life

Introduction:

3:1-4: Seek the things that are above (Christ be our Focus)

Seek the things above

Set your mind on things above

You have died and you life have been hidden with. Christ in God

You will be revealed with him in glory

Seek!

What does it mean to seek?

It means that our pursuit of Christ should be an ongoing desire that out-weighs all other causes.

Why do we seek something that we desire?

What does the bible mean when it calls for us to seek whereas how we interpret seeking for something we desire?

The Theological Dictionary of the New Testament ζητέω

a religious sense this word first denotes the “seeking” of what is lost which is undertaken by the Son of Man with a view to saving it (Lk. 19:10), as a shepherd looks for the lost sheep (Mt. 18:12) or a woman for the lost coin (Lk. 15:8). But the same term can also be used of the holy “demand” of God who requires much from him to whom much is given (Lk. 12:48), and who expects fruit from the tree (Lk. 13:6 f.), faithfulness from the steward (1 C. 4:2) and worship in spirit and in truth by the true righteous (Jn. 4:23).

3:5-11: Put to death earthly way (renewal according to God’s image) - Christian living/the stripping of the old nature to participate in the community of God’s people

Put to death your earthly nature

Rid yourselves of bad habits

Be renewed in truth - your process of sanctification is in the image of our creator

All national, culture, and alien (outsider) are accepted through Christ, whom is all and in all.

3:12-17: Living into our heavenly role - Let Christ be the center basis for our worship and moral life.

Put on/clothe yourself in righteous qualities/character

Let the peace of Christ rule in your heart

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly

Do everything in the name of Jesus

Represent Jesus in the highest esteem
